Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

A Simple Woman's Daybook

.

Outside my window...
it's very dark. The sky is a deep, dark gray -- full of rain. It rained over night, and I think it will rain most of the day. Snow predicted later in the week.

I am thinking...about lesson plans. We had last week off; now it's back to the books. The kids are not happy. They would rather be bums.

I am thankful for...
for a normal schedule. The kids may like time off, but I like structure.

From the learning rooms...Seventh grade: The Communion of Saints, Forgiveness of Sin, Life Everlasting; Irregular Verbs; Slovakia; dividing decimals, powers of 10, decimal/fraction/percent equivalents; "O Captain, My Captain!" Second grade: Rhyming words; adding money and regrouping (ugh!); Creation and the planet in science; Sixth and Seventh Commandments; several great feast days.

From the kitchen...for the feast of St. Andrew the fisherman -- Tuna Tetrazzini for dinner, and fish-shaped Scottish shortbread.

I am wearing... still in jammies -- it's Monday.

I am creating...finishing up the kitty pillowcase, starting two Christmas gifts -- another Thorpe for my nephew, and a scarf from the softest cotton yarn ever -- for my Goddaughter and youngest cousin.

I am going...to the Post Office and that's it.

I am reading...I haven't read in a week -- that is the sad truth!

I am hoping... that Advent takes its time.

I am hearing...the fish tank -- it needs more water.

Around the house...laundry, ironing, laundry, ironing.

One of my favorite things... Advent. I love the new year. My mother-in-law said this is spring in the church. Funny how spring comes in the fall. We're not really going to sleep at all, are we?

A few plans for the rest of the week: Meeting friends to go ice skating -- not me, the kids!

A lingering thought...from yesterday's Mass meditation in the Magnificat:

"I say, that we must not only have faith in the Lord, but must wait on him; not only must hope, but must watch for him; not only love him, but must long for him; not only obey him, but must look out, look up earnestly for our reward, which is himself. We must not only make him the Object of our faith, hope and charity, but we must make it our duty not to believe the world, not to hope in the world, not to love the world. We must resolve not to hang on the world's opinion, or study its wishes. It is our mere wisdom to be thus detached from all things below." Venerable John Henry Newman

A picture thought... or a moving picture thought as the case may be. Geoffrey played the piano quite a bit on Saturday and allowed me to video tape him briefly (which he never does!). It's all improv, by the way. My boy quit reading music a short time after he stopped taking lessons. He plays by ear. And pay no attention to that sneaky little imp who can't stand my attention on someone else!

  1. Oh Barbara, keep those jammies on! You deserve to chill out on an early Monday am after all you've been up to (wink), and for that busyness of life. I for one have been so blessed by you with your labors on my behalf. BLESSED by you. <3 Thank you so much again. Grab your book and do read on with feet up when you are able, and please have yourself a great day! Hugs!

  2. We, too, have been busy and off school all last week, finally today, a schedule, even though it's started a little late!

You are amazing, big plans for supper, after Thanksgiving, I'm all out of new things for meals! My energy is out, that is!

My 2nd year piano kiddos said "Wow, he plays really good!" I agree!

  5. Love the list! And kudos to the piano player because that was really beautiful. Very calming and meditative in a nice melodic manner. Thank you so much for sharing but thank him too for allowing you to video him and sharing his God given talent with the rest of us!
