Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

PS

.
I intended to note, in my Yarn Along post, about my niece Rachel. She and her parents learned yesterday that her cancer is, in fact, thyroid cancer -- follicular variant of papillary carcinoma, which, essentially, means that it is a highly curable form of thyroid cancer. She will have surgery again to remove the entire thyroid, and then have radioactive iodine infusion therapy to kill any errant cells (my word, not the doctor's -- I'm very non-scientific). Unfortunately she just started art school to earn a degree in photojournalism, but she has explained the situation to her professors and thusfar they have been understanding. The surgery requires a week at home to recover and the radioactive iodine therapy requires a week in isolation. Hopefully she can work out her assignments and exams. I think the isolation will be hard for her (because she's a very normal 19-year-old girl), but with television and computers and cell phones, how isolated can one really be?

I appreciate all your prayers -- Catholic girlfriends rock the prayer world!

  5. I will continue to keep her in my prayers. On a positive note, a good friend of ours was diagnosed with the same cancer last year and followed the same course of treatment with tremendous success. I hope the news with Rachel will be as good!

how scary...but fairly good diagnosis all things considered.
hopefully with youth on her side, she will bounce right back.

  8. I have two girlfriends who have had this - and are doing very well today! Both said the worst part was that isolation week!!! Plan ahead - treats, drinks, mini fridge, telly, videos, music, new books, letters for her to read . . . phone calls. I know you are a kickin' hot auntie and you'll know exactly what to do, because you love her.

Our prayers are with her, most definitely.

  9. Oh my goodness! So thankful that this can be treated!! I will absolutely keep her in my prayers, Barbara! Cancer is hard on anybody...but I would say, especially so on a 19 year old!

  11. Jenny,
I hope not for your sake. Thank you for the prayers.

Esther, Thanks for your prayers. It's bad news, with a silver lining! It was good news when we heard because we already knew it was cancer.

    Sarah,
Thank you so much for the special intentions.

    Thank you, Jamie.

Aimee, Thanks for the good reports -- encouraging!

Regan, She is young and has a good attitude!

Barb, fortunately her professors are very understanding -- must be because it's a small, specialized school. I know my son has never had very understanding professors at Ohio State!

Thanks, Sarah. I do have some fun plans!

    Thanks for the prayers, Nancy.

Will keep you posted, Sara. Thanks.

  12. Continued prayers for your dear niece, Barbara. I read somewhere not to very long ago that thyroid cancer is very "curable."

  13. Cheryl, when I faced the possibility that I might have this cancer some years back, the doctor assured me that if I DID have cancer, "it's the best kind you could have, because it seldom spreads and is curable."

Barbara, will keep praying for Rachel. Hugs, Rosemary

  14. Dear Barbara; I can assure you she has been in my prayers ever since you fielded out the request to keep her in our Aves. She will remain there, and I'm asking Our Lady to hold her close and keep her in her tender care.
