Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Yarning Along...

.
...with Ginny.

If you at all remember last week's Yarn Along I had just finished a scarf for my daughter and was awaiting a shipment of yarn for a scarf for my niece Rachel, who is having surgery to remove a tumor in her neck next week. She is a young, beautiful girl (see pic from her FB status) and I wanted to send her something pretty to cover her bandage after surgery.

I admit I am a little disappointed in the yarn. I imagined a heavier weight, and silkier feel. It's very light, kind of sticky (especially on my dry fingers), and a little bit scratchy (I should have known better -- it is 100% wool) -- my first disappointment in Knit Picks. I am hoping it blocks up better than it looks and feels right now because this is an awful lot of work for a scratchy, ugly scarf. I am knitting this pattern and I admit that it has taken me, oh, 250 rows to memorize the pattern (I'm just a little slow!). The pattern is pretty, I'm just not sure this was the right yarn for it. I'm going to probably double the length it is right now, or at least finish the skein and get it in the mail to send to Maryland by early next week.

I stretched it out so you can see the pattern here.

The color is more realistic, I think, in the second pic. It's a miserable cloudy day here today so there is no good light.

My read this week is still Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier.

  1. I'm sure once you block it, the beautiful pattern will be more obvious. The color is gorgeous.

  2. It's beautiful, and I can't believe how much you've done in just a couple of days. You're fast! I hope it won't be scratchy, but you're so fast you could probably do another one. ;-)

  4. That color is perfect for her! Could you line one side with silk or something luscious and soothing? I think PurlBee had a tutorial on hooking knitted material to woven material...

  7. Oh, that's too bad about the yarn, there are so many pretty colors in it and I love the one you've chosen. I do hope she likes it anyway, and agree with the commenter who said it will really look lovely after being blocked.

  9. That's a really pretty pattern and I love that color. I'm the same with wool...it cannot be itchy! It will give me flashbacks from when my mom used to make me wear thick wool pantyhose to church when I was little.
