The other day Elizabeth at In the Heart of My Home posted a link to this story. What a great lesson -- one to remember.
I was in the car with my 18-year-old son yesterday and I told him the story. He tends to be a "questioner" of higher authority, so I thought I'd plant a little seed. But, as we discussed the issue we began talking about how often times it is experience that teaches us not to trust. Once we leave the save haven of home, whether to go to school, or be part of a team, or group, we have relationships, good and bad, with people whom we find we can't trust. And often these experiences change our behavior when it comes to trusting others.
So, I have been thinking about whom I trust, and whom I wouldn't trust, and I think that alone is a very good characteristic by which to choose a friend.

Amen Barbara. It's a hard lesson to learn sometimes, but a good one. The flipside being, you understand that the ability to be trusted makes your friendship invaluable.
