Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Sick of Being Sick

I have had a cold now since Christmas Eve. That's 21 days. Likely that's the longest cold in my history. Every once in a while I think it's gone into a sinus infection and then I start sneezing again and my noze starts running. Either my immune system total stinks or this is the most wicked cold ever.

I need refills of these:
And these:
Maybe I should buy in bulk.
Suggestions for home remedies welcome.

  1. Dear Barbara,
So sorry to hear this has lingered for so long!

Sounds like back to back viral infections!

Can you just imagine how many more you might have if each of the children was in a different school?

Please drink plenty of fluids, use anti fever meds, dress in light loose layers, chicken soup works wonders, Vicks or camphor based vapo rub was a stand by from Mom that has proven itself invaluable over the years for me, rest when you can.

Zicam is the new drug advertised for early onset of symptoms or Cold MD Rapid tabs.

Puffs with lotion sure has saved my irritated nose.

I agree on the choice of cough drops if they are sugar free and also for sore throat lozenges.

Hope these symptoms resolve quickly for you!!!

In the meantime, try to give the children independent study, add home economics to the class outing by using HOME as the class project where they learn recycling, eco friendly cleaning and how to make simple meals!
    You are a creative wonder.
I am sure the children will love helping Mommy teacher to feel better!

  3. I sure hope you are feeling better soon! Drinking lots of cinnamon tea always helps my sinus passages and it is just downright yummy. :)

  4. Hm. I once had a cold that would not go away, or even show any signs of improving. In desperation, I prayed on night that I would go to daily Mass every day for two weeks, if only I felt better in the morning. I woke up the next day, still sick, but better. The day after that, on a dark, cold, miserable Chicagoland morning, I trooped out of the house at 6:45 to make that 7:00am Mass. :-)

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

  5. Barbara, so sorry you are still sick. If you like garlic -- garlic tea works wonders. Take 3 cloves of garlic, peel and cut in half. Put in three cups of water and bring to boil. As soon as it boils add 1/2 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain and drink 1/2 cup three times a day. We use this alot around here. Even my girls 8 and 6 love it. But then again we absolutely LOVE garlic around here :)! Feel better soon!

  6. Thanks ladies, for the sympathy.

Zina, I love garlic, but my stomach doesn't, so I'll have to stick with tea with honey and lemon. But, thanks.

    Jennie,
That's too funny, but if I get desperate, I'll remember your bargain!

    Rebecca,
I picked up some cinnamon tea today, when I stopped at the store for more cough drops and tissues, and it is yummy. Hopefully my sinuses will love it too.

Mary, The Vicks has been my best friend and I think I'm going to stock up on Zicam for the next time!!

  7. Barbara, I'm reading this late but I say go for the Zicam too. It helps! Also, do you eat yogurt? I read somewhere years ago about how eating a yogurt a day helps reduce the frequency of colds. I noticed a big decrease after we started this. Cold-Eeze is another zinc (comes in gum or lozenge form). I hope you feel better soon!

  8. I have been sick since just after Thanksgiving, so I feel your pain! I just finished up a second round of antibiotics, and I still don't think that I'm getting better. Maybe a little better, but I'm not even sure about that. My husband and one of our sons has also been sick that long, and also just took a second round of antibiotics. Apparently there are things going around that are really sticking around. :(
