In an effort to"boycott" those pink-ribboned products benefiting the Komen Foundation, and ultimately PP, I have started a list of the items I have personally avoided purchasing at the grocery and whose corporate offices I am writing letters to. There is a list at the Komen website of their partners (link on sidebar) if you would like to see if any products you buy are produced by their sponsors. Some of them are a little tricky. For example, Thomas' English Muffins are touting the Komen sponsorship. However, Thomas' English Muffins are produced by George Weston Bakeries -- a huge umbrella for other products. The George Weston Bakeries has guaranteed a $100,00o donation, irregardless of how many English muffins they sell (or Entenmann's donuts, or Boboli pizza crusts, etc.). So, buying any of their products ultimately supports the Komen Foundation and PP.
Like, I said before, I don't know if I can always boycott, but I'm trying. And most importantly I want the corporate offices who produce these products to know that I won't be buying their product until the Komen Foundation stops supporting PP.
If you would like to add a product to my sidebar, leave a comment (and write a letter). I'd be happy to e-mail you a copy of the letter I am using.
