Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

A not-raining-at-the-moment Daybook

Outdoors..
.it is hot and muggy. It stormed last night and it's been looking like it's going to storm again for most of the day, but it hasn't. Everything is very green and lush in the yard, though, so I don't mind the rain. Just the heat. I know many of you would like to pelt me with rotten tomatoes for saying this, but I would really rather have snow.

I am thinking about...something which must currently stay in the silence of my heart. And my father-in-law, who left this earth a year ago this week. It's so hard to believe this photo was taken with Doug's mom and dad and the grandchildren, a year ago -- it seems like it was last week. He is thought of often and I beg his prayers, as well as pray for him, very often.

I am wearing...a light green and blue cotton skirt, a blue knit shirt and sandals.

I am reading...I have put aside Shirt of Flame, and The Gift of an Ordinary Day, and am just reading Something Other than God, although I didn't get the chance to read all weekend.

I am creating...a Tiny Tea Leaves cardigan, some dishcloths, and a Confirmation rosary.

At the school table...we didn't get a lot of school completed today, with two doctor's appointments and a blood check appointment. We should have a productive week however, and I am starting to pare things down to better see the end of a year. Faith is reading Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, and I plan to read along with her. Why not add another book to the stack?

On the table...there is a Lemon Meringue Pie cooling on the counter, and tacos. I'm not sure which we'll eat first. {wink}

I am going to...relax tonight after dinner. I was sick all day yesterday (made for a great Mother's Day!) and I think I need a little nap.

A few of my favorite things...
...a date with my husband (though an event which he is "in charge" of is not exactly a place to have a date, but we did get one slow dance)
...clean sheets, on the bed tonight
...thunderstorms, even at 4 a.m.

Prayers sent heavenward for...
...my husband and children
...my youngest son, for whatever God's plan is for him and for Him to know what his part is
...our priests and religious, especially our parish priests, and Fr. Howe
...all the babies whose mothers are contemplating abortion this week, for a change of heart
...a special intention in the silence of my heart

This shelf in my living room now contains three relics, two of which just came to me from my grandma's belongings.

A piece of Pope John Paul II's zuchetto

Thought for the day...

It always seems we are on the wrong side of the glass.

  1. I won't be doing any tomato-pelting. I'd rather have snow than heat any day of the week, so I'll stick right with you on this one and we'll endure those hurled tomatoes together!

I put everything else aside, too, to read Something Other Than God. Is the whole word reading this book at the exact same time? Or is it just bloggers... or Catholics? I hope it's the whole wide world!!!

Oh - and your photos are wonderful.

  2. Looking at the top photo, it must seem so surreal, doesn't it? I was looking at family photos and thinking the same thing. Gosh I miss my dad! Terribly. I took the older two to a ball game and happened to snap a photo of them as they walked into the stadium section. I was thinking about how excited he would be to be with us. And then I know he was with us in spirit and so excited to be at the ball game ;) A rather large lump formed in my throat at that moment, one that the girls didn't understand.

Lemon Meringue Pie! One of my faves. My mom makes it a lot, but unfortunately, I live too far away from her to enjoy it with her. I've never tried to make it....maybe something to add onto my summer bucket list?

VERY nice photo of you and your husband! I was hoping you'd share one with us, especially of your dress. Hoping you feel better soon, too.

    1. Patty, Definitely try a Lemon Meringue pie this summer. I bet your mom will share her recipe ;-) or you can try mine.

  3. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon! We loved that book! It has a very magical, fairy-tale-ish feel to it, and all of us were thoroughly enchanted and delighted by it. It was our read-aloud a couple of years ago, when we had heavy storms and tornado warnings almost every night that May, and since we were all sleeping in my safest-from-tornadoes mostly underground bedroom, we got a lot of reading done. You'll enjoy it, too!

  4. Hi Barbara! Gorgeous photos. I love the picture of you and your husband. You are such a cute couple! I love date nights. I will have to check out the book your daughter is reading. I am always looking for good book recommendations. There is such garbage out there now.
I am praying for you. I always do when I pray the rosary!
    Blessings,
    Kirsten
