Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Daisy Chain Shawl Yarn Along (and a wip)

I finished my Daisy Chains shawl last week, but didn't get it blocked in time for last week's Yarn Along.

It turned out pretty, though I'm kind of bashing myself in the head for making it gray. Gray, black, and navy tend to be my winter wardrobe colors. Why didn't I make this shawl a bright coral or powder blue, soft yellow or wisteria purple? Gray daisy chains are kind of like dead daisy chains. It's a good thing the daisy chains don't actually look like flowers.

I had a bit of trouble with this pattern. I am counting challenged, and the bottom pattern definitely requires attention. But, I did learn a new skill with the clusters in the centers of the diamonds.

As soon as I bound off the shawl, I started something familiar -- my favorite baby sweater. This time in KnitPick's Cotlin Sprout. The buttons will be dark brown.

I'm listening to The Life of Objects by Susanna Moore, but I just started it, so no opinion yet. I read Divine Intimacy (pictured) every day. It's a very old copy, given to me by my mother-in-law. I love it. Also reading lots of cookbooks as I plan my menus each week -- a goal for the year. I love Michele Quigley's Menu Planner made just for this purpose.

  1. Your shawl is beautiful, Barbara! I think it looks fabulous in gray. Pastels are okay, but they always remind me of Easter eggs. The gray would be great with a white silk shirt, pearls, and black slacks or skirt. Very elegant!

  2. Your shawl is lovely! I agree it looks very elegant. (And I tend to do the same thing - I'll go to order yarn and then realize everything in the cart is a different shade of brown or olive.)
Your sweater looks darling too. It makes me want to knit one, and that yarn looks so sweet too.
My girls and I were delighted to get a peek at your vintage Divine Intimacy! We've never seen the like. How special that it was a gift from your mother-in-law. What a treasure (or should I say two treasure, she and the book).

    1. Thank you, Kimberlee. I'm glad I'm not the only person who does that, though I'm determined to knit a "color" next time -- maybe a crimson red?

My Divine Intimacy is from the early 60s. My mother-in-law is a secular Discalced Carmelite, and for some reason she had a newer copy -- probably because the calendar in mine is not current, which always makes "finding one's place" after a major holy day very interesting. ;-)

  3. Oh my! That shawl is stunningly beautiful! Also, that picture just makes me want to have a fire in the fireplace, a cup of hot tea, and a good book in my hands.

    1. Thank you, Jenny. It tried me sorely, but I conquered it! ;-) We haven't had a fire this winter. My husband always seals up the fireplace in the spring so we don't have to smell it every time it gets damp or windy, and it hasn't been cold for long enough to convince him to buy wood and unseal it. I do love the fire -- Faith and I used to get one going in early afternoon.

  4. Barbara, I totally know what you mean about the colors. I love coral and blue. But it is just gorgeous. How fun that must be for you! I'd love to have that talent.I am wowed out!You are fortunate to have an old copy of Divine Intimacy. Mine is totally in tatters..missing pages. I'm still trying to get through ''SEARCHING FOR AND MAINTAINING PEACE''.Several friends have recommended it for anxiety and other things.
