Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

12 / year...August

Lying in bed last night I realized the last day of August and the first day of September had passed, and I forgot to post my monthly photo journal. Oops. Well, the quiet month just sort of slipped right through my fingers, right to the end.

It was a quiet month for the most part, and we were trying to get the most out of summer, as ours started a bit late, it seemed.

I did some sewing, including this simple nightgown for Faith. These aren't very good pictures, but it's really cute. I used the basic method for a pillowcase nightgown, but because I never like the ties on the shoulders, especially for sleeping, I modified it for tying it in the back. It doesn't ever need to be untied.

I love this fabric.

We moved our second college boy into his studio apartment on campus. Now we have two boys living at Ohio State. The grocery fairy just doubled her load!

Faith caught a photo of a post-storm rainbow. August started wet but ended really dry here in Ohio.

Much of the month was just spent watching time float by and enjoying the mellow month.

Until the end of the month and the scramble to get school supplies ready (and schultutes).

At the end of the month we enjoyed an evening at the ballpark in the hospital's suite.

(Columbus Clippers and the someplace-in-Georgia Braves -- minor league teams)

The foundation Doug heads purchased a new service dog, named Bear. He is a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois born in the Czech Republic for just this purpose. He is trained for several jobs, trained by the trainer pictured (Dan), including keeping an escalating situation in the Emergency Department, for example, from getting out of hand (his presence alone does that), sniffing for bombs, and acting as a therapy dog. Bear was just at the game for some experience in large crowds and for exposure (PR), but when my husband learned that there were some terminal children watching the game in the suite next door, Bear went to work as a therapy dog. My husband is grateful to have the opportunity to put such great programs into place in the hospitals.

At the end of the month I stocked up on groceries, getting ready for school every day, starting this week, and took inventory of the freezer. I was rather embarrassed at the list of food I had in the freezer, most of which was rather unaccounted for. Now I don't need to buy food for a while, because the pantry is pretty well-stocked, as well.

That's all for August. Tomorrow Faith and I begin a new year of school, and hopefully having a regular schedule will prompt me to have regular thoughts (not that my thoughts are irregular, but they don't come regularly for this blog.) I hope you're having a great Labor day.

  1. Sometimes, I miss writing more for my blog, and sometimes... I don't! I'm too busy most of the time, which sort of makes me sad, but I'm busy with some rather interesting and important-to-us things, so it's all good. I don't take my camera out nearly as much as I used to, though, and that makes me REALLY sad, so I'm going to work on that. :-)

Have a great First Day of School! (We're starting tomorrow, too.)

    Love,
    Jennie

  2. Just not managing much in the way of pictures these days. Trying to keep my head above water, I guess. I have one kid starting Wednesday and one on Thursday. My challenge this week is returning myself to a school-year wakeup time--I've been sleeping right through the alarm or slamming the snooze without even realizing it!

  3. Jennie, I really only miss blogging when I have something to write and no time to sit down! Often my thoughts just fly out of my head and never come back!

    Happy first day of school!

  5. Happy first day of school! I hope the whole week goes well!

I'm the same way about blogging--I just forget if I have an idea. Or, sometime, I just don't want to open a big can of worms.

  8. The "grocery fairy" is love! Our freezer is somewhat empty since we had a power outage for a couple of days in July. We lost everything and we haven't been able to keep it stocked. There are some very hungry people in this house! Anyhow, my album is up - http://bottledponderings.blogspot.com/2013/09/12-year-august.html
