Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

quickies

I don't have my lesson plans finished, but at least I started. I can not, however, be expected to hold thoughts in my head for very long, so I have to spill a little.

I am the most amazing knitter. I can knit for two hours and finish with less than I started. And this happens about every third time I pick up a sock. I'll never get two socks done at this rate.

Wasn't that a great thought? I need to remind myself of Sister Margaret's famous words to the "men" of St. Charles: "there is an unpublished thought." Sigh.

The produce around here is incredible right now. My mother-in-law said she heard the drought is actually "to blame." The lack of rain supposedly concentrates the flavors of some fruits and vegetables. I can't vouch for the cause, but the tomatoes, the peaches, the watermelon are so good. I am declaring "BLT night" once a week until the first frost.

Faith says: why did the window go to the doctor? Because he had window panes!

Yup -- that's a made up joke. She's a nut.

Yesterday I had my annual mammogram. I am very grateful for the fact that our insurance covers it in full and the hospital's women's center sends me reminders. A very close friend just learned she will have to undergo a mastectomy. If you have an extra prayer for her in your arsenal I know she would appreciate it. She is going to gave a tough row to hoe, but I have faith that God still wants her out in the trenches.

Jessica reminded me that it's Schultute time! I can't believe I almost forgot. That just goes to show my head is not in the game. My college boys start tomorrow -- a trip to the store is mandatory today!

A little hint as to my visitor a weekend back. I didn't get many pictures, but I'll try to post the few I got at a later date.

  3. Wow, those tomatoes look scrumptious. I'm so sad that we didn't get a garden going this year. Several of our containers that we used last year literally fell apart on us. It's those fake terra cotta pots and the bottoms became so brittle that they just broke out. Grrr. We spent a lot of money on all of them, too. Next year (if all goes well and the river doesn't rise) we'll be putting in a few raised beds using good old-fashioned wood.

I'll be saying a prayer for your friend. I've been having terrible headaches lately, so I'll offer that up for her.

I've been buying little bits throughout the summer for the kids' schultutes and hiding them in my closet. I just need to get the poster board and colored tissue paper now.

    Have a blessed week, Barbara.

  4. The photos are beautiful! Our local farmer's market has had some wonderful stuff, too. We're having sweet corn, eggplant, and watermelon tonight. I even got s "mini" melon called a "Tiger Melon"; it's orange with darker orange stripes. Hope you feel better soon. I will pray for your friend, too. Hope today brings you some special joys, Barbara. --- Rosemary

  9. That is absolutely true about the drought and some produce. The orchard where we pick our fruit told us the same thing -- that very hot, dry days make for the most delicious peaches. It must be true because our peaches are out of this world good. I am eating three per day, which I'm sure is gluttony but I blame it on the baby. ;-)

And I totally knew who your special visitor was as soon as I saw her post the other day! And I am, for the record, totally jealous. In a Christian kind of way, of course.

I will also have you know that I am *justthisclose* to packing up the van and making a tour of all my favorite bloggers. You wouldn't mind six extra children at the dinner table, would you? ;-)

  11. I for one would be most happy to be a stop on Aimee's Fabulous Blog Tour. (I think Little Brother and Fiver would get along famously. And my neighbor Cutie-Pie is like Sally, two years older.)
