Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

(6/26)...streaming

The day after 50 is just another day. I woke up and I felt no different, which is good and bad because I didn't feel so great when I went to bed. But that's life, isn't it? We get up and do what we have to do.

I took the dog to the vet this morning for a day of beauty (shampoo and a haircut) and fun (an exam and annual vaccinations). She weighs about 30 pounds more than she should. She is an awful beggar and Doug and the boys indulge every sad doggy look. Doug said from now on she goes to her crate during dinner. It wouldn't be so bad if they fed her meat and veggies, but they throw her bread and feed her potatoes. "No bueno," my oldest would say. She's coming home with a summer cut, which should be really amusing with 30 extra pounds around her belly. Poor dog. At least she never has to look in a mirror.

Yesterday ended on a quiet note. Doug stayed home from work and he and Faith and I went to the botanical gardens just down the street. It's so close but we almost never go there. Isn't that always the case? Well, maybe not for you, but we rarely stop and smell those roses.

Doug bought me a new camera and I took it to try it out. It's a very fancy pants camera, one of which I am not worthy, but I will try to learn all that it can do to get the most out of it. He really bought it because it has the same great Carl Zeiss lens my other one has and it takes great close-ups for shooting pics of rosaries, and food.

I was shooting on the auto settings yesterday and the photos were a tad over-exposed. I adjusted a few of them on iPhoto, making them darker and more colorful. I need to fiddle with the camera because I don't want to have to do that with an expensive camera.

Then we came home, I fixed a simple dinner of steak, mashed potatoes, roast asparagus and fresh bread (someone else baked it). I never made the fruit tart because my mother brought over dessert left from the party -- chocolate cheesecake and chocolate raspberry cake. We ate outdoors it was so nice.

I think my husband bought me a camera so that I would have to learn something new.

I think my friends and family were shooting for the same thing. I got several new books.

I have a lot of new things to learn.

Fortunately I have most of the summer ahead. We'll bake bread and knit socks, and clean the house naturally.

I want to go to the pool. Waaaah.

Later today we are going to have our portrait taken for our parish directory. I had to bribe my boys with dinner out, they were so disinclined to be cooperative. If only I had tranquilizers, I wouldn't care.

See ya.

  1. LOL, that last line made me laugh. :)

I have the Toe Up Socks book. I have yet to make any socks out of it, though. I'm intimidated…again. *sigh* I know, I'm over myself. I'm just so comfortable knitting up my plain-jane socks from the top down that I have yet to muster up the courage to try something different. Too bad we don't live closer. We could form our own little sock knitting group. Then you could figure out the toe up way and teach me. haha! ;)

  2. Happy belated 50th, Barbara! It sounds like you had a wonderful one - enjoy playing around with your new camera (and we'll look forward to the photos).
Your description of your dog caused me to laugh - they are so hard to say no to sometimes when they beg with those eyes of theirs!
