Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

This is a job for...Blessed John Paul the Great

It is really very laughable when non-Catholics call the Catholic Church oppressive to women. It really just goes to show how very ignorant they are, because Catholicism is the one religion that elevates women to a pedestal, well pretty darn high up there. One only has to read a fraction of what Blessed John Paul II wrote to know how greatly he, personally, revered women. And I think he is really the perfect candidate for prayers in regard to the HHS mandate. If he can't get it done, well...hmm.

I read an article today that fired me up and I think you should read it, too. One quote really jumped out at me (my emphasis in italics):

"As the president accuses others of using religion as a bludgeon, he ought to reflect on the division he has created. And those who oppose the HHS mandate ought to be as relentless as those waving a 'War on Women' banner in its defense. President Obama is counting on discerning women to be demure as he and his allies try to scare single women into voting Democratic in the November elections. Women should not be intimidated. We’re in a fight for a foundational principle — a first freedom — and the stakes are too high to give in to the cynical charge that we’re engaging in a 'war on women.'"

One thing feminists have on their side is their tendency to get pretty darn fired up, and I think that Catholic women and those who fight for religious freedoms can take a page from their tip book. If you haven't checked to see if your city is holding a rally this week -- March 23 -- go here to check it out.

  1. I agree with you completely, Barbara! I really don't understand how people can believe that the Catholic Church is oppressive to women. I have never, ever felt that. I really don't get it ... I also will begin asking Blessed John Paul the Great for his intercession. What a great idea!! We are going to our local rally on Friday. Taking a bus and everything ... Probably one of the most important field trips my children will ever attend!

  2. I am planning on going. This IS SO IMPORTANT.

Like you said, "the stakes are too high"

I hope people will wake up and fight this.

  3. I hadn't looked at this in quite this way, and this really put it into perspective for me. The underhanded and silent manipulation is alive and well, so BEWARE!!
