yarn along...
I have expressed here before my love of grey days. Not just because bright glares trigger my migraine headaches, but I just think grey days are cozy. I am a homebody and grey days encourage hominess. Of course they are not great for taking photos. The last four days have been cloudless. Today I want to take a picture and there is not a peep of sun anywhere. It's as grey as it can be. Go figure.
The furnace installers have been here since 7:30 am yesterday (of course they went home to sleep). I am anxious for them to be done. Besides having strangers in my house, they are back and forth from the back yard where they are installing a/c, and my floor is filthy. I just want to sweep and steam. The dog came in muddy too, which didn't help matters. One of those days where you just offer it up.
The other day I cast on this sweet little vest in Knitpicks Brava Worsted in rouge for Faith. I call this bright pink and Faith absolutely says it's dark pink. I call pastels "light" and she calls them "bright." It makes for some confusing moments picking out clothes some days. (Trying to pick out clothes for a nine-year-old girl is most definitely another post entirely.) The yarn is a little scratchy -- feels more like a wool -- but I wanted something a little more durable for Faith to wear. She's not a sitting pretty kind of girl. My fingers and thumbs, however, are rather beat up and I think the rough texture of the yarn might be to blame. My thumb has an actual hole in it, which is not entirely unusual for me this time of year.
I haven't been reading much lately. A few pages of this on my Kindle and a few pages of that, which I need to finish up because it's a library book. Mostly while I knit, at least in the evening, I've been watching Bramwell, an older Masterpiece Theater series, on my Kindle Fire. I am on the fourth and last year, so I'm savoring the last few episodes. Last night I watched the dvr'd premiere of Downton Abbey. I watched the whole first season just before Christmas while I frantically knitted my son's balaclava. Are you watching Downton Abbey, too? It's funny that so many Americans are hooked on this British series. If you are hooked on Downton Abbey, I bet you would enjoy Bramwell, also.

I'd call the yarn bright pink too ;)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about rougher yarns playing havoc with your fingers - I knitted a giant cardigan in a yarn that left visible dents on my tensioning finger!
I really DON'T watch TV, but I must admit I'm intrigued by all the buzz about Downton Abbey. Might have to Netflix the first one or two to check it out.
ReplyDeletePretty sure the fingers of my LEFT hand could take knitting--they're all calloused from playing guitar. In fact, my left index fingertip has such a callous on it that sometimes my iPhone doesn't recognize its touch as a finger!
That's funny I had never heard of Downtown Abbey until yesterday when my neighbor suggested it to me. Now you are reccomending it too. Its already in my Netflix cue.
ReplyDeleteI am almost finished watching all of Larkrise to Candleford, from netflix, it is a BBC series, very charming
oh my daughter loves that tv show!! Beautiful yarn!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, pinkundine!
ReplyDeleteThe first season had a few "fast forward" moments, if you know what I mean, Barb. The first episode of season 2 had just a few kissing moments. Pretty clean by today's standards.
ReplyDeleteWill check out Larkrise to Candleford, Carol. Thanks for the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteAlisa, does your daughter like Downton Abbey or Bramwell. Both good depending on her age!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the holes in the fingers! I switched to knitting Portuguese style. It might be worth a try- much easier on the fingers and I find I keep a good steady tension going. There are a few good youtube videos on it if you search "portuguese style knitting". I just checked and the videos I find most helpful are posted by chuanavit. I use my neck- haven't gotten a yarn holder before but might do so eventually. I find the motion of this style is easier on shoulders/elbows/wrists b/c requires less movement to make stitches and the knitting moves much faster. Love the pink!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz. I knit continental, which I feel is pretty conservative in terms of movement, but pretty intense finger-wise. I will check out Portuguese!
ReplyDeleteI just jumped on the Downton Abbey train, and now I've made Rob jump with me. We are enjoying it very much! I'm supposed to save it for the treadmill, but I usually don't. I like to really savor and listen to a show like that and I can't do it while listening to the dumb treadmill. And yelling at the fighting kids from the dumb treadmill. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think I'll have to check out Downton Abbey. I am reading about everywhere!
ReplyDeleteAre you watching that Bramwell show on your Fire for free? Still trying to figure out these gadgets. =)
ReplyDeleteDoug watched the first episode this year with me Aimee, and was surprisingly interested. :
ReplyDeleteJenny, there were a few scenes in a couple of episodes during the first season that were not for children, but this year's first show was pretty clean. I hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteElisa, I am watching on my Kindle through Netflix. So you need to be a Netflix member and have the netflix app (free).
ReplyDeleteOoo! I'll be adding Bramwell to our queue now. I also have the Netfix app on our NOOK tablet. Thank you for the recommendation!
