Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

On the fourth day...

This morning I was up bright and early to take Geoffrey for an eye doctor appointment and then back to campus (sad face). All four of the kids and I had some good lunch on the way. That was fun.

He recovered incredibly well from surgery, and I thank you for your abundant prayers. To think we had been putting this off for years... thinking it would be so terribly hard for him. I had heard nightmarish stories of adult tonsillectomies. Luckily his doctor was persistent (insistent). Now that it's over, he is very pleased to have done it. I'll tell you a little secret -- he truly believes (as do I to some degree) that his rapid recovery is due partly to a "magic" oil I discovered called Tamanu. It is primarily used for skin ailments, but after reading that it had been known to help sore throats (applied to the neck), I bought a small bottle (not inexpensive) and we used it religiously. We both admitted it could have been due to some placibo affect, but it did lessen the pain and I think his scabs healed faster than Faith's. That and prayer...

On the afternoon of this fourth day, I spent a ridiculous amount of time (truly ridiculous) toggling back and forth between the KnitPicks and Ravelry websites. I spent so much time these past two months knitting Christmas gifts, I almost don't know what to do with myself. I eyeballed a few patterns, and ordered a little yarn, and now I have four projects that I can start soon (tomorrow).

First up is a Wimple (dontcha love that word?) that I'm going to knit in KnitPicks Alpaca Cloud in Smoke Heather (I already have the yarn so I don't have to wait). It matches my hair (wink) and I thought it would be nice to wear on snowy days. The yarn is light enough I could also wear it to Latin Mass instead of a veil.

Then, when my yarn arrives, I'm going to knit Faith another Tiny Teaves Cardi in KnitPick's Brava Worsted Rouge. I have became somewhat of a yarn snob, but have confident that if KnitPick's sells it, I'll like it (fingers crossed). Fortunately Faith is not a yarn snob, so even if the knitting experience isn't all I dream of she'll love it because it's pink!

#3-- I started a scarf a couple days ago and didn't have enough black yarn to finish it so I guess it will become something else, namely an afghan for Joshua's bed. I plan to use up scraps of color, crocheted between single rows of black. I can't decide if the rows of color with be single or multiple. Hmmm? Thoughts? Maybe I'll ask Joshua. Nah..... I'll work on this in between other projects or maybe a row a day.

The fourth project I have on the docket is a shawl/wrap for myself. I have one I use in the house but it's rather skimpy (just enough when you have on a flannel nightgown and a quilt on your lap), and I'd like something to throw around myself when I'm running to get Noah from school or just running quick errands in the cold. I hate winter coats, but in Ohio you really can't just go without. Some days are coat, scarf and glove weather, but some you can get away with just a throw. I spent a ridiculous amount of time (I told you) on Ravelry but never found just what I was looking for. I want something rectangular and thick, but no froufrou -- no ruffles and lace. I would like a little texture, however. If you have any ideas, leave me a tip, would ya?

So that's what's up on the fourth day. Are you busy? Planning future projects?

  1. I love that wimple! I've admired it before.

Have you seen this herringbone poncho? http://www.ravelry.com/projects/camigwen/herringbone-poncho
I love the stitch and a friend just turned it into a cowl, so you could probably turn it into a wrap/shawl. It's practically a doubleknit the way the stitch works. Very heavy. I have the book if you can't find how to do the stitch.

  2. Forgot to mention that in addition to my homeless mat and my ongoing gray pullover, I've started a Dr. Who hat with LOTS of colorwork for Pip's b-day on the 10th, and some felted slippers for Meg's on the 24th. 8-P

  3. On the fourth day of Christmas...I babysat...
did laundry, made green smoothies, and went to a bonfire...this week is very laid back. Prince Charming has now been on vacation for 3 weeks...next week he goes back to work..the girl goes back to school...and I will be back to my regular routine. I have the ingredients to make a "Stephanie from lazy town" costume for a neighbor's granddaughter...so that will be my next sewing project. (I don't even know what Lazy Town is.)
