Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

December Daybook

Outside my window...
...rain, rain rain. It's been raining for a good 24 hours now without stopping. The creek is way up. It's a good thing it wasn't very cold or we would be snowed in!

I am thinking...
...about so much my head could explode:

college kids' finals this week

St. Nicholas Day tomorrow -- I usually try to take treats to the church office but I am not very well prepared this year

How many, many Christmas gifts I have yet to buy (order). I joined Amazon Prime to save on shipping -- these kids all want some sort of electronic or electronic game, so I am hopeful I will quickly recoup my costs. I have also obtained many gifts on Etsy -- and some really great and really unusual gifts. The shipping is really reasonable for most shops.

How many Christmas gifts I have yet to craft. Oh my.

I am thankful for....

...that Joshua's doctor thinks his headaches are most likely rebound headaches. Two weeks without any pain medication is the treatment. Praying that at the end of two weeks he is headache free.

...hot, (strong) black coffee, always

From the lesson plans...
...back to the grindstone. We stray, we come back, we stray, we come back...finishing up our "unit" on the Pilgrims and moving forward with Colonial America. If I didn't already say so "I love Our Pioneers and Patriots." Love it (I'm pretty sure I already said that). Taking a wee break from science right now and bulking up on Advent/Christmas reading. Carpe diem.

From the kitchen...
...tonight Oven Baked BBQ Chicken, mashed potatoes, sliced fresh pears. I need to bake Speculatius Cookies tonight, too.

I am wearing...
...khaki trousers, a heavy, brown, cotton turtleneck and brown patent leather clogs, bronze Our Lady of Guadalupe earrings.

I am creating...
...this hat for my nephew Bobby (in Buckeye stripes). Last night I finished this hat (in Buckeye stripes) for my nephew Sean (I had a heck of a time with that hat and do not recommend the pattern -- email me if you want the nasty details). Hats and cash they get this year. I have 13 knotted Seven Sorrows chaplets in the works, eight wired tenners, two bracelets, one pair of earrings, and a bronze Seven Sorrows chaplet in the works in the line-up, too. Sounds like a song there.

Yesterday I made Faith's new stocking that she just had to have before tonight (we use stockings for St. Nicholas day and Christmas).

Your eyes are not deceiving you -- it is pink and green

the stockings were hung...

I am reading...
...The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It's a library book so I need to put it ahead of some others. I started it last night in bed (by flashlight app on my phone) and had a hard time putting it down. Good stuff.

I am hoping...
...that Joshua's headaches go away.

I am hearing...
...Faith in the kitchen humming to herself. She wants to clean the kitchen floor, on her hands and knees. I have no idea what has come over her, unless she is playing a role (Cinderella) and that's my guess.

Around the house...
...Laundry and laundry. No Christmas decorations save the outdoors lights the boys put up on Saturday (before the deluge began). We used blue and white lights outdoors for the first time in our married life and I love them. We always used blue when I was a kid, and they remind me of the Blessed Mother. Totus Tuus, Maria.

I am going...
...to Mass on Thursday and maybe one store for Christmas items. I have pretty much vowed not to step foot into store, but I can't get cheap shipping on everything. I think UPS should have a membership plan so one could get "free" UPS shipping all year. Shall I write them a letter?

One of my favorite things...
...hot cocoa (real hot cocoa) with whipped cream on cold, rainy days.

I am praying for...
...my children, especially Noah, Joshua and Geoffrey.

...our priests and all religious

...several soldiers

...my father-in-law
...Uncle Walt

...all of the babies whose mothers are contemplating abortion this week

Plans for the rest of the week...
...school and home -- my vocation

Quote of the Day...read today in Faith's religion book, so beautiful

"Wherever you go I will go,
wherever you lodge I will lodge.
Your people shall be my people
and your God, my God.
Where you die I will die,
and there be buried.
May the LORD do thus to me, and more, if even death separates me from you!”  Ruth 1:16-17

  1. Beautiful display around your fireplace! I love it! We'll be making the St. Nicholas cookies, too. Yum! I can't wait. Better than gingerbread in my opinion. Oh, and I made the real-deal cocoa last night with real whipped cream on top. Seemed like the thing to do on a snowy Sunday night.

…I've always loved that quote from the book of Ruth, too. <3

  2. Your busy head and household sounds much like mine. I keep feeling like there is so much to do and so little time. Every year I tell myself I am keeping it simple and moving very slowly and each year it seems I'm running in circles some days. If only they would not require dinner and clean clothes...then we could concentrate on seasonal ideas and preparation! :)

  3. Joining you in prayer (and lack-of-shopping, too!) Please pray for Middle Sister, who is home from school today with a migraine. Later this week I'm taking her to the doctor about this. Today, she will rest.

  5. I love reading your Daybooks. : ) Nothing fruitful to add other than its exciting to be able to have even a virtual conversation about crafting and reading with a thoughtful adult. Probably indicative of my social life that your writing, and my later reading and commenting 'counts' as my adult conversation these days but hey it actually does ; D
