Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

Homeschool prayer

Today is the first day of school -- just Faith and me. In past years we have prayed the prayer of St. Ignatius because my sons at St. Charles pray the same prayer each day. But I thought this year I would find a prayer more fitting a fourth grade girl -- something sweeter (St. Ignatius prayer is rather tough), but honestly I couldn't find a better prayer than the one we have been praying. And, after all, the saints who are women are probably pretty tough cookies.

Prayer of St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.
Amen

Prayers for you as you begin a new year at home, at school, at work, in whatever you do.

  2. I think that is a perfect prayer for me right now. I'm going to print it for myself to pray.

  3. I have 2 alternates for you:

The first is one that I learned as a kid in Catholic school. We prayed it before each class in the middle-school years.
--Direct, we beseech Thee, O Lord, our actions by Thy holy inspiration, and carry them out by Thy gracious assistance, so that every prayer and work of ours may always begin from Thee, and by Thee be happily ended. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

And then there's St. Francis' Prayer Before the Cross
--Most high, all glorious, all good God, bring light to the darkness of our hearts. Give us right faith, firm hope and perfect charity, with wisdom and insight, O Lord, that we might always discern Your holy and true will.

Come to think of it, the Peace Prayer of St. Francis would also be a good choice.

Wishing everyone in your family a great school year! How is Faith feeling?
