Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

A perfect God in an imperfect world

.

I really should be stirring the pasta that's boiling on the stove, or shredding the cabbage for the slaw -- all preparations for tomorrow's grad party -- but I wanted to share a message I heard today on the radio, that I have been pondering all day, compliments of Fr. Larry (dontcha just love Fr. Larry? He is soooo real.)

(Very much paraphrasing here because I was driving and could not take notes) Fr. Larry said, don't look to each other for holiness. If you know someone who seems very holy, do not worship him (her), because he (she) will fall, will sin. If you want to be holy, look at God.

I know that was probably lost in translation, but you know how often we look at one another and say "Hey, she is really holy, I want to be just like her." What a mistake it is to look at creatures for examples of perfection, but how easy it is. It takes more energy to look at God, to read scripture, to try to achieve true perfection.

Just a thought.

I say to the Lord, you are my Lord, you are my only good. Worthless are all the false gods of the land. Accursed are all who delight in them. Psalms 16:2-3

  6. oh, isn't this true? And while we are made to help bring our spouses closer to heaven, we have so be sure not to expect the spouse to be our model of perfection (paraphrasing Fr. John Ricardo :).

    Thanks for the reminder.
