Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

Daybook...First Day in Ordinary Time

.
 Outside my window...
...very cold -- 14 degrees to be exact. We had more snow over the weekend, just enough to keep everything white. More snow predicted tomorrow, just enough to make a mess of the roads and cause accidents. Though Ohio gets its share of snow, Columbus always acts like it's a once-a-year event. Hello....any snow plows out there?

I am thinking...
...about my Joshua who was up sick all night and I am praying so hard that this is the last of it and not the beginning of a long week or two weeks with a stomach bug. I wish I could call in men in haz mat suits to clean the bathroom and door knobs and every other surface he has touched or breathed on, but I guess the man in the haz mat suit is me. Ugh.

On a follow-up note, my niece Rachel sees a surgeon tomorrow. The tumor is not in her thyroid and it must come out soon. I'll keep you posted. She's supposed to start school at a college of art in D.C. in a week or so...praying that all works out for her.

I am thankful for...
... a Sunday spent the way Sunday should be spent. We relaxed all day. I did some quilting, some knitting, some cooking, went to Mass at 5 p.m. and then enjoyed a nice dinner.

From the lesson plans...
...pushing hard on American History and Latin with Noah, as well as Algebra 1/2...the subjects he will really need next year. He is not enjoying science, sadly because I do, nor reading. I'm having a hard time connecting with him on anything...the beginning of the teenage years.

...Faith is enjoying everything (except Math) and I'm finally seeing her get proficient in reading. She gets so excited when she reads "really big words" all by herself, and she earned a 100% on her spelling quiz last week with words like sanctify, humility, homily -- yay Faith!

From the kitchen...
...Tortilla Soup and Layered Taco Dip for dinner -- trying to move away from so much wheat.

I am wearing...
...charcoal gray trousers, a pink turtleneck, Miraculous Medal earrings.

I am creating...
...a baby quilt, a scarf for moi, a couple of rosaries, including a St. Michael chaplet for a former Marine that I'm kind of excited about.

I am reading...
...a book about Edith Stein, St. Theresa Benedicta. Still working on it -- it's on my nightstand so I'm afraid it gets limited time these days.

I am hoping...
...for the beginning and end of the stomach bug all on the same day.

I am hearing...
...the furnace blowing (thank you God for a working furnace) and some house creaks and that's all.

Around the house...
...clean, clean, clean. All of the Christmas decorations came down on Saturday and so I have new space and clean surfaces. So lovely.

I am going...
...no place today. At least that's the plan.

One of my favorite things...
...going no place. ;-)

I am praying for...
...my children, Rachel, three soldiers in particular, all the unborn babies whose mothers are contemplating abortions today.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
...a stress echo cardiogram (what fun!), a vet appointment for Maggie, the beginning of homeschool gym and Noah's appointment to get his braces off -- it's a big week!

Thought of the day...

"If in my life I fail completely to heed others, solely out of a desire to be 'devout' and to perform my 'religious duties', then my relationship with God will also grow arid. It becomes merely 'proper', but loveless." — Pope Benedict XVI (Deus Caritas Est)

  1. ooh, sorry about the stomach bug. I hope it's short-lived. I sanitize everything, too.

  2. I hear you on the haz mat team! I am trying to get into a every few day habit of spraying down the house with Lysol. Hope everyone is well soon.

  3. Sara, I cleaned the bathroom for the first of many times today, I'm sure. And I warned everyone else to wash, wash, wash!

Sounds like a plan, Jen. I am thanking God for the wonderful person who invented washing wipes!

Silliness! All men are the same. They just need to be praised for what they're really good at. Remind him often of all that's wonderful about him and I bet you'll have no trouble connecting with him at all. :-) Men have to live life on their own terms, you know.
