Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Seven Quick Takes Friday

.

What a week. We've come a long way since Sunday. I feel like I need a vacation for the weekend, but we're diving in head first to more busy.

~~~~1~~~~
We started school this week, in case you haven't been by. It was a good first week, probably our best yet. Even with all the other crazy things going on in our lives.
~~~~2~~~~

Noah is enjoying math, can you believe it, math? I bought the D.I.V.E. CD this year and he really enjoys having someone else teach him (and I'm not shy about saying, "So am I!"). That bodes well, not only for this year, but for high school next year. He also likes the new Seton history (even though the book is not yet printed and we are working from pages printed from their website), but not so happy about the science book. I forgot how labor-intensive their 8th grade science book is. Unfortunately for him, his teacher thinks a little labor is a good thing.

~~~~3~~~~
Faith enjoyed school this week as well, and I really have to say it's the curriculum. CHC is everything I had hoped it would be. The books are a real pleasure to use -- the are beautiful and efficient. Each lesson provides just what she needs and not a bit more (that's a good thing, really!). MCP math is just as I remembered it, too much, but that problem is alleviated with a pencil (by circling the areas to I wish for her to complete).
~~~~4~~~~

Geoff moved into his college apartment and we've spent quite a bit of time this week trying to get him settled. He went from a furnished apartment last year to an unfurnished apartment this year. Whodathunk it would be so time-consuming to set him up? His roommates provided quite a bit of furniture, but we had to scrounge together all his bedroom furniture, plus a kitchen table and chairs. His room is really tiny so we decided on a futon for him to sleep on and I have to go pick it up today. We ordered it from Wal-Mart and the first time they shipped it to a store close by it was damaged and rejected. Then they cancelled the order (um, we needed it!). So, I had to go through the whole process all over again. He's been sleeping on the floor since Monday and today we finally can pick it up and take it down to him. Yesterday I took groceries and some things that we forgot Monday and he's pretty pleased with the apartment. I hope he likes it enough that he'll stay for two years (unless he would like to come home and that would be awesome!).

When I took groceries down yesterday, Faith came with me. She was not able to come on Monday because the van and the car were full, so she checked the place out thoroughly yesterday. She also discovered that the boys have a kitty (which I don't think they are allowed to have). We didn't even make it back to the car to leave before she released her plan to talk dad into getting a cat -- a white one that she would name "Pearl." She talked nonstop all the way home about her new kitty, even though I repeatedly told her there was no way dad was going to let her have a cat. We'll see if she can wear him down. I'm staying out of it. ;-)

~~~~6~~~~
Yesterday I met a new friend for a drink to talk about her son leaving for college. She was feeling the mama blues and so am I, so we made a perfect pair. We learned we have an awful lot in common, so I am hopeful that we will be old friends for a long time. I think that friends can often give us what no one else can give us -- they assure us that we're not alone. They validate our feelings in a way our husbands can not. Thank goodness for girlfriends!
~~~~7~~~~

We have a busy Labor Day weekend planned, how 'bout you? Tomorrow family from Cincinnati is coming to visit and we'll have a little party with them on Sunday, and with my brother and a friend who is a girl but not a girlfriend (I don't get that, do you?). Big cooking going on -- Pulled Pork and pies and I'm not sure what else. On Monday it's grandpa's birthday, and we'll have a houseful to celebrate. I think I'll need a vacation next week.

  1. And those girlfriends pull us back onto solid ground when we're falling off a cliff. :-) Girlfriends are great, even one's we've never met.

  4. A girlfriend which is not that serious is known as a "friendgirl" in our family. Also, when someone dates a person and we do not know them well yet we tend to put the word "that" in front of their name and thern the gender after. For instance, my niece dated "that Aaron guy" for awhile. As we came to know him he gradually became known as "Aaron". they got married in June!

  5. Big Brother has plenty of "friendgirls." Many of them hung out here all summer, along with a bunch of guys as well. It's like they travel as a pack instead of in couples. That's fine with me! Of course, all of these "friendgirls" were perfectly lovely and I'd be thrilled if at some point, one of them changed into a girlfriend. But for now, this is fine.

    Enjoy the weekend!
