Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

40 Bags of what?

.
I mentioned in my Daybook that I plan to participate in 40 Bags for 40 Days. I have plenty of clutter -- plenty to give away to charity or friends, or throw away.

But, maybe you don't. Maybe you have a few extra dollars? I think a fair substitution would be a bag of groceries. We plan to do a food drive in our neighborhood for a Confirmation service project. Maybe you have someplace you can take some bags. I happen to know that food pantries are having a hard time right now, and with lots of extra dollars going to Haiti, they are likely feeling the pinch even more.

  1. I love this idea, but as much clutter as I have I know I'd never fill that much. What I'm planning on doing instead is tacking one project each day. Sometimes said project will result in a bag or two (cleaning out closets for instance or culling my library) but in general it will be a chore that I otherwise avoid at all costs because I'm either lazy or just plain hate it, or in most cases both. ;)

If I find myself coming towards Easter and running out of things to tackle, I'll definitely consider this grocery idea, but am also considering some volunteer time at St. Vincent de Paul or the local Crisis Pregnancy Centre.

  2. I've got six already without even trying. At some point, it's gonna start hurting, though. ;-)

  3. i have clutter too. but i don't know if i have 40 bags worth. especially since my boys utilize hand-me-downs-so i really like this idea of giving groceries. the local shelter is always filled with people in this area needing food. jobless-ness is really bad here right now.

happy birthday sweet peach. my b-day is quite often during lent. sometimes even on good friday so i know how it feels to have the celebrating sort of take a backseat to this holy season.

    have a lovely day barb!

  4. The grocery bag idea is excellent! I'll expand on it--women's shelters, homeless shelters and crisis pregnancy centers always need things like diapers, toiletries, feminine supplies, toothpaste, etc. Fill some bags with those and deliver them.
