Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

On the ninth day of Christmas...

...nine projects around the house for 2010. Please don't tell my husband. He might leave home.

These are a few of the things I'd like to do. We can't do them all, in all likelihood, because of the cost, but I can dream. I put an asterisk next to the ones likely to be done. Peach's room is a definite because she asked for it to be done for her birthday (not everything, some are necessity; she really just asked for the walls to be painted).

1) A room makeover for Peach: remove "baby" kitty and bunny border (this makes me so sad, but she says it's for "babies"), paint yellow walls pink, replace carpet with wood floor, purchase a bookcase or shelving unit of some sort, purchase a new quilt and bedding for the bed. *

2) Expand college boy's bedroom in the basement into a studio apartment. This will require the addition of one wall and a doorway, as well as the purchase of a few small pieces of furniture, but I think it's very doable, if I can just convince his dad. *

3) Paint living room (going from bayberry to applesauce cake)walls, ceiling and bookshelves; purchase new drapes (we haven't had any since we replaced the windows last December -- I think I waited long enough). *

4) Paint dining room (also go from bayberry to applesauce cake -- except leave white treatment above chair rail), replace dining room windows, purchase new drapes, and put in a French door between kitchen and dining room. *

5) Replace upstairs hall bath floor with ceramic tile, replace toilet, touch up white paint, buy new shower curtain.

6) Put walls and ceiling in laundry room (it's in the basement), paint cement floor, put in stationary tub.

7) Re-stain the deck.*

8) Paint master bath walls and ceiling.*

9) Paint basement and restore to a schoolroom.*

I think it will definitely take us until December 30, 2010, to do all that I want to do, even if we only do the seven with an asterisk, but I think they are doable. I'm not sure they are doable if I want to keep my second resolution. Know any cheap painters?

  1. You know what? You don't have to do it all at once. It's a little annoying to look at a partially done project, but with all these kids and responsibilities, I'd never get anything done if I waited till I could do the whole thing. For instance, I tape and paint one wall at a time. It drives Davey crazy because it sometimes takes me a month or two to finish a room, but it does get done. :-) Just break down all those big projects into little ones, and you'll be able to keep both resolutions #1 and #2.

  2. It all sounds so exciting! I wish I could come help you paint.

There are so many things I want to do around my house, but dh is officially looking for work as of 12/31/09. That does not bode well for getting projects done around the house. This year is all about "making do."

  3. Jennie, You are so right. It requires much patience, however to do a bit at a time, something I could manage, but I'm not sure about Doug. Maybe I should test him!

Sara, I wish you could help, too! A job shared is a job halved! Good luck to your honey on the job hunt. Pray to St. Joseph!
