If you're praying for a calling for one of your little boys (or big boys), he's the man.
Patron of seminarians, among many other things, St. Charles did great things for the Catholic Church. You can read a more thorough profile here, but in a nutshell, besides being a overall great guy, he was the Bishop of Milan where he cleaned house of baaad priests in the Church; survived several assassination attempts (probably those baaad priests); facilitated the final deliberations of the Council of Trent; and ultimately gave away everything he owned for the poor and the sick, dying dressed in a sackcloth and ashes.
That man certainly deserves his spot at the Right Hand.
He is also the author of one of my favorite quotes:
“Be sure that you first preach by the way you live. If you do not, people will notice that you say one thing, but live otherwise, and your words will bring only cynical laughter and a derisive shake of the head.”
He was a wise guy, too. The best kind.
