Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Planning Ahead -- Summer Reads

.

Is there any better feeling than having a couple months ahead of you and a list of books to read? Not for me. The only thing better would be if these darned kids would leave me alone so I could read for a couple uninterrupted hours at a time. Who am I kidding? That's not gonna happen.

Planning ahead for next week (this is the dreaded testing week) and the weeks after, I added a whole slew of books to my Good Reads "to-read" list, and I've reserved about ten from the library. I can't wait. (I have to tell you that my library website is so awesome. When I search for an item, and find it, there's a little "request it" prompt just below the title and all I have to do is click it and it's mine. Awesome eh?)

Hoping to finish (but probably not before I start another new one):
He Leadeth Me, Fr. Walter Cizek
Real Women, Real Saints: Friends for Your Spiritual Journey, Gina Loehr
Our Lady of Kibeho: Messages from the Mother of God in the Heart of Africa, Immaculee Ilibagiza

And going to start (probably one at a time):
Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen
The Last Days of Dogtown, Anita Diamant
The Kindness of Strangers, Katrina Kittle
Echoes, Danielle Steele
My Life in Pink & Green, Lisa Greenwald
The Patron Saint of Butterflies, Cecilia Galante
The Thirteenth Tale, Diane Setterfield
Certain Girls, Jennifer Weiner
The Death Camp Proved Him Real, Maria Winowska
The Returning, Ann Tatlock
Time of My Life, Allison Winn Scotch
Little Face, Hannah Sophie
Rosewater and Soda Bread, Marsha Mehran
Irish Girls About Town: An Anthology of Short Stories, Maeve Binchy

What are you reading this summer? Drop me a note if you have something interesting. Or if you're on Good Reads, look me up.

  1. This summer:
I re-read Jane Austen every summer. I've finished Sense and Sensibility so I'm on to Pride and Prejudice.
I have a HUGE stack of books that need finished, which includes some Dickens, so I'm going to try to work on that. Bleak House in particular looks good for finishing.
This of course doesn't count the awesome books I pick up in my regular trips to the bookstore....

  3. Emily,
I may have to put a Jane Austen on my list -- that's good summer stuff.

Thanks Regina. I think I looked at that website in their very early stages -- I'll have to check it out again.

  4. I haven't decided what I will read this summer ... I'm actually looking for recommendations, if you have any! I'm currently reading "Just Jane" by Nancy Moser, which is a fiction (based on fact) of Jane Austen's life. I just started it, but it's kind of interesting ... I also know I'll be reading "Lifeline: The Religious Upbringing of Your Children" by James Stenson for my women's group. I'll check out Good Reads ... I've seen it on some blog sidebars, but I don't know much about it ...

  5. I love these recommendations. I am actually finishing a beautiful book called The Divorce Party by Laura Dave. the title makes it sound different than it is. It is actually a beautiful book about the importance of marriage, fidelity, and forgiveness. It keeps making me cry, but in the best way. I will start Water for Elephants next.
