The Gospel this week (Mt 18: 15-20) is about forgiveness. This is not a topic you can really cover with a craft activity, but it is certainly a topic children need to learn about. Children need to learn not only to apologize for hurts they have inflicted on others, but also to forgive hurts inflicted on them -- not always an easy lesson. This is one that just takes a lot of practice, in my opinion. Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins, so we must learn to forgive others. Say the Our Father every day and have children really think about the words.

Feast Days
September 8 -- Nativity of the Virgin Mary
This week starts off on Monday with the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are so many fun activities to do on this day with the kids -- even if it's just as simple as making birthday cards and lighting candles on a cupcake. Take the opportunity to celebrate!
● Here is some information about the feast day. I especially like the idea of using 10 candles on a cake for the ten Hail Marys in a decade of the rosary.
● This web page has some good information and some great art.
● Here is an explanation for children about the feast day and why we celebrate Mary's birth.
● Learn the Memorare or the Angelus is you don't already know them (or if the children don't know them).
● Sing some songs for Mary: Hail Holy Queen, Immaculate Mary, or On This Day O Beautiful Mother.
● Have a birthday party -- have the children make cards, bake a cake or cupcakes, make a Spiritual Bouquet for Mary and put it on your family altar.
● Say the rosary or even just a scriptural decade.
● Pick flowers for your family Marian altar.
● Learn about the Maria Bambina.
● Color Mary .
September 9 -- St. Peter Claver
Patron of black people and African missions.
● Biography here.
September 10 -- St. Nicholas of Tolentino
Patron of animals, babies, boatmen, dying people, sailors, souls in purgatory
● Biography here.
September 12 -- Feast of the Holy Name of Mary
● You can read my post from last year about the feast -- and if there are any activities you missed on Monday, you can do them today.
● And here are some coloring pages.
