Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

What Would Jesus Do?

.

I have been watching news people and bloggers from across the nation react to the appointment of Sarah Palin as John McCain's vice presidential candidate for the past few days.

Veerrry interesting.

I understand the knee-jerk reaction from the Dems. They are wishing they had done it. They are justifiably worried that McCain did what they couldn't do. They are hoping the choice was a bad move.

But what I find most interesting is the reaction within the Party, even more interesting, the reaction within the pro-life, pro-family arena. I've heard many positive comments -- people who have placed their, dare I say "hope," in this new face.

But, I must say I've also heard what comes pretty close to sniping. From other mothers. Satan is likely so pleased.

I'm sure that doesn't surprise you. For years women have been critical of each other's vocational choices. It makes us uncomfortable with our own choice to show approval in anothers. I must admit that I myself have been guilty of feeling superior in my choice to stay at home and raise my children rather than go into the work force and leave my children in the care of another. My sin.

I don't know Sarah Palin. I have no idea what her motivation is for entering into politics. But rather than snipe at her, I will give her the benefit of the doubt. I will believe that Sarah Palin is willing to leave the comfort of her home for the betterment of the people of our country. I will believe that Sarah Palin would rather sit on her comfy sofa and nurse her baby than do anything else in this world. After all, she is a human mother. I will believe that Sarah Palin is making a sacrifice for me and for my family. I will believe that she has, as Our Lord has directed us, taken up her cross to follow Him. And then I will pray for Sarah Palin, and her family, and those who would question her motivation.

. Then Jesus said to his disciples,
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world
and forfeit his life?
Or what can one give in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory,
and then he will repay all according to his conduct.”
Mt 16: 24-27

  1. There have been many woman throughout history who've stepped out of traditional roles to do what must be done until someone else was willing to do it. St. Joan of Arc put on armor and carried a sword to crown a King. St. Catherine of Siena traveled to Avignon to tell the Holy Father it was time to get back to Rome. Ma Ingalls (Little House) used a shot gun, drove a plow and handled all the farm chores until Pa returned home. And what about the Hat Pin Mothers? Sarah Palin is doing what must be done because no one else is doing it. Praise God for her witness. I appreciate her sacrifice and believe that she will, by her example, call more of our good men and women forward to follow that same example.

  2. Thank you for such positive remarks. I have read a lot of negative comments about Palin and I agree with you. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and may she do positive good things if she makes it to Washington as a VP.

  3. I am absolutely excited to see her on the ticket! She brings freshness to an aged realm and I'm excited to finally be able to feel like the Rep ticket really will *do* something. This is a ticket I can really believe in and I honestly believe it can walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

  4. Barbara,

You're my hero! Thanks for saying what I have been thinking.

You know, conservatives have been whining how many months how much they want a pro-life candidate, someone that reflects their own values. Then, when God answers the prayers, they whine because it doesn't fit the mold they have in their minds.

It all kind of reminds me of the guy that was in a flood and kept asking God to save him and God kept sending things like boats and copters and the guy wondered why God didn't save him!

We cannot dictate how God answers prayers. But we should pray for all those who serve our country in any form, no matter their gender.

    God Bless,
