Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Welcome to the Red Door Inn

Before

After

Doug finished the last bit of painting last night. And while I was sore at him for painting while I was recovering from surgery, I now realize that he was just getting his ducks in a row. His new job begins Monday and I know he didn't want this task hanging over his head. Not that the paint was falling off the house before, but it did need a bit of sprucing up. After getting a quote of $4500 for someone else to paint it, he decided he better dive in head first and just get 'er done.

When we chose colors we were looking to reduce the contrast between the stucco and the trim. Because we have a Tudor, we have more trim than most houses. We were tired of the dark brown trim we had before and we wanted to brighten the overall look of our house. We have several large shade trees in the front yard and they cast so much shadow that our house always looked dark.

We looked at loads of colors -- Doug was having decision issues -- and finally settled on a bright stucco color (not quite white, but close) and a rusty gold trim color. Our door is a shiny dark red called Autumn Leaves. It should look awesome in October when the big Red Maples in the front yard turn dark red. Our challenge was the brick on the front of the house. We were tempted to paint it, but I don't think Doug wanted to try it alone and I was in no position to help. I think the lighter trim lightens the brick enough that we can live with it, and surprisingly the trim matched the roof almost exactly.

Welcome to the Red Door Inn, folks. Come on and visit!

And on this Feast of St. Martha, I ask for her prayers:

Saint Martha, I resort to thy protection and aid
and as a proof of my affection

and faith I offer this light, which I shall burn every Tuesday.
Comfort me in all my difficulties and through the great favor thou didst enjoy,
when the Savior was lodged in thy house.

Intercede for my family that we may always hold God in our hearts,
and that we may be provided for in all our necessities,
I ask, St. Martha, to overcome all difficulties
as thou didst overcome the dragon at thy feet.

Amen.

  4. VERY pretty!

That does it, I have to go out and buy that paint for my front door and shutters. (Mine will be a "denim blue" color; siding is pale yellow.)

You WILL take another picture in the fall when the leaves turn, right?

I'd be delighted to post another picture in the fall when my red maples are red and my burning bushes are on fire, Barb!
