When praying a Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows this week, I found this mediation for those who may have private suffering. I thought it appropriate to post today. It's so easy to assume that we are the only ones with problems -- especially when ours are more visible. But, most people have some sort of suffering, some worse than others.
"We look all around us at Church and see them: all the people whose kids never seem to scream and who look like they haven't a problem in the world! But what if we really knew them? We would see the 'secret sufferings' that mirror our own. Mass is the gathering of those who have looked at the their own brokenness through the lens of the cross, and live! Today is the perfect day to pray for all God's broken children and especially those who are tempted to break the lives of others."

Thanks for the post. It was something I needed to read today. :) The novena looks wonderful too.

This hit home especially after sitting in front of the couple with the "perfect baby" who never cries or fusses. My preschoolers spent all of Mass coloring and I had to spend 3/4 of Mass outside with the toddler. I felt like they were judging me when likely they prayed for us or didn't give us any thought at all.
ReplyDeleteI do have to say how eager I am to move and find a friendly parish with lots of kids who aren't so perfect!
