I love a really productive day. There is really nothing so satisfying to me, as a mother and wife, than to finish a day and know that I used very moment possible to fill my vocation. Yesterday was one of those days. And maybe the title of this post should be "The Devil's in the Computer" because the reason for my very good day was that I shut the computer off, at least for most of the day.
I rarely do that, even though I know that I should. The computer is such a distraction, but I often find myself needing to legitimately check on something or send a quick email, and each time I do that, I am distracted by something else. Do you do that too?
But, yesterday, I shut the devil off and, besides my normal daily chores of making beds, fixing meals, wiping up bathrooms, sweeping floors, and teaching school, this is what I accomplished without distractions:
washed, dried, folded and put away 6 loads of laundry
made granola and then baked granola bars,
chocolate banana bread, and coconut biscotti
(I'll post recipes in the kitchen)
ironed half a dozen pairs of pants
planted all my vegetables and two new rose bushes
watered all the new flowers in pots
packaged and mailed two new rosaries and a birthday card
made granola and then baked granola bars,
chocolate banana bread, and coconut biscotti

When I went to bed last night I was completely exhausted. Not that I'm not normally, but, it was a good boned-tired exhausted, and as soon a I prayed the Fatima prayer at the end of my rosary decade, I was out.
I think today I'll get some annuals to plant around my two new roses (I'll get some pictures) and sit on the porch with some hot tea and a coconut biscotti. Would you join me?

I would definitely join you, as long as you don't mind that I can't bring anything to the party except a cranky baby and a crankier toddler :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the computer is at the tippy-top of my long list of distractions from my vocation. Every now and then I need to drop off the blog radar and regroup.
Not only would I join you...I'd like to help plant flowers with you! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I get distracted at the computer....badly :(
Aimee, I love a crabby toddler (and a cranky baby). We'll give that girl some Chocolate Banana Bread and she'll be happy as a clam.
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
I'd love a helper -- any day!!
Hey, can you hang in until I'm done with my tutoring this morning? I could use a nice relaxing cuppa tea after that.
ReplyDeleteThank God there are only 4 more weeks left.
Distracted? At the computer? Me? Uh, yeah. Way too much. This is how I procrastinate when I don't want to go teach...
Barb, I'll be here when you get here. :o)
