When the each of the children were smaller, around age two or three, we would have dancing time in the evening. I'm guessing it was during the winter, when their energy had not yet been expended by 7 p.m. They each loved music at this age and enjoyed their version of dancing, which, except for Peach, probably involved running in circles around the room with the music on. Doug and I would put on the Bee Gees or Neil Diamond (or some other music that reveals our age) and dance and sing along with them. Each one went through this phase -- we have pictures in the albums to remind us.
That was good fun and I have to say we haven't had that kind of sweet, energetic fun in a while. Life gets us down like that doesn't it? We've been bogged down in serious homework, college apps and worry about where will the college tuition come from for quite a while now. I think we're due for some good, loud singing, happy dancing fun.
Last night I was coming home from coffee with a girlfriend and a Martina McBride song was playing on my CD player (I told you I have southern roots). It was "Happy Girl."
And I've come to know
That the world won't change
Just 'cause I complain
Let the axis twirl
I'm a happy girl
Everybody knows
That the sweetest thing that you'll ever see
In the whole wide world
Is a happy girl
Isn't that so true? First, that nothing is going to change just by being angry or upset by it. And, second, is there anything sweeter than a happy girl (or a happy mommy)?
So, my friend, make yourself happy this weekend. Put on some loud singin', happy dancin' music and be a happy girl. It's Friday!

You can't go wrong with Martina!
