Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Knitting for Preemies

I only learned to knit a little over a year ago. First a friend taught me, and then, feeling all thumbs, I re-taught myself using this great website. As it turns out, I'm much better at left-handed knitting, aka Continental knitting. It's more like crochet, at which I was experienced before learning knitting.

Anyway, after about a year of knitting, I still hadn't made anything more complicated than a knitted hat or scarf. I made a lot of those, and donated them to the homeless through our parish. But, thanks to Lana, I now have a new passion. Preemie hats and booties. I made my first pair of booties and they are heart-melting sweet. They will go to the Preemie Project. I only wish I could follow them and get a sweet, tiny baby fix.

These are knitted -- aren't they sweet? Click on the picture to see them upclose.

These are crocheted and I think I need to thread a ribbon through the ankle to hold them on.

  2. Barbara,
Those are SO ADORABLE!! Thank you so much for giving of your time and talent!!! Making things for preemies is so gratifying and they mean so much to those parents who receive these hand and heart made gifts! It's an addiction that's better for us than potato chips:~D

  3. Is there anything you CAN'T do Barbara? ;-) Absolutely beautiful! My Ella actually got one of the preemie project hats in Michigan where she was born. She wasn't a preemie, but had an abnormally low temp so they wanted her as warm as possible. I still have it today and treasure it. I often wonder about the generous woman who knit it!

  4. Oh my gosh! I've been looking for someone or some project to knit for! I mean, I can only make so many shawls or scarves - thank you for this idea! I'm so excited, especially since I had a preemie of my own!
