Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Just a little nippy

The thermostat says -1 degrees F. That's just the temp with no wind, and I can hear the chimes, so it's windy. The wind chill is -20 degrees. That's cold. Yesterday the creek was still running but this morning it's frozen. The schools called another inclement weather day, which I can understand because I wouldn't want my child standing at a bus stop this morning. I think this weather is around for a little while, at least according to weather. com. although it looks like it might get up to freezing by Sunday. As much as I'd love to start a fire this morning and sit by it all day, it's dance day and I have to go out in this cold. Brrrr.

Yesterday Doug left for Florida with his mom. He drove her down there where she'll stay for four months. He is meeting with some donors and coming home Sunday. I wouldn't want him to be gone all the time, but for some reason I get a lot more done when he's gone, even though he's gone all day during the week. Crazy! I caught up with all the laundry yesterday and started to put some Christmas decorations away, though I'm keeping the tree lit and the outside lights on until Sunday. The bright colored lights just seem to warm up that frigid landscape.

I made this Chicken and Biscuit Cobbler Tuesday for dinner and it was delicious, but nothing about it was low fat -- it will have to remain a rare treat. The recipe came from Southern Living (why do I subscribe to Southern Living when I live in Ohio? I'm a southerner at heart.) I followed the directions pretty close to the letter though I didn't have any dry white wine (one disadvantage to not drinking any more) and I refused to put the bacon in the biscuits -- that just seemed really over the top. I also used dried herbs instead of the fresh called for. The gravy was thick with carrots and mushrooms and it was very creamy -- Faith gobbled the leftovers for lunch yesterday.

My afternoon pick-me-up: half mug decaf coffee (strong), half mug hot milk, a tablespoon of Chocolate Malt Ovaltine and just a little (ha!) whipped cream. Gotta stay warm you know.

My view from the kitchen table -- if we got much closer, I'd be napping. That's the cat's bed on the chair next to the fireplace. She was in it all day, and she was napping.

  1. Doug will be driving right by my house. :) No, really, we are just a bit off of I 75. I'll pray for their safe travels. Tell him not to go above 75 on I75 south of Atlanta....especially in the southern part of GA. Oh and to fill up with gas in Tifton, if he's not past it, gas only gets more expensive over the state line. Gas in Tifton is cheaper than gas in Valdosta right now.

I guess if I'm living in South Georgia, I ought to make myself useful :) I am also bookmarking the chicken recipe, that looks good!

    Stay warm.

  2. Both the chicken and the drink look delicious and warming! I think I'll try the chicken this Sunday - I was looking for some comfort food and this one fits the bill as I have most of the ingredients (and I think my three sons and husband will all love it which is an added bonus :)
Safe travels for your son and Doug, and stay warm in Ohio! It was 3 here in PA this a.m. (without wind) and most schools were running on a delay to make sure the buses would start.

    1. I really wish our city schools had the mechanism for delayed start. It's really not complicated -- I'd love to know what keeps it from happening.

I hope you enjoy the dish -- I could eat it again soon!
