Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Quick Takes (7)

In honor of Jennifer Fulwiler's new book, I am participating in the weekly Seven Quick Takes, which I don't usually do because I am never quick, and I rarely have seven interesting things to say.

-1-
Ok. Speaking of Jennifer's book, Something Other than God, what percent of Quick Takes do you think are reviewing the book, or at least mentioning it? I'm guessing 99%. I have never read so much about a new book -- it's made quite a splash.

-2-
Also on the topic of the book (I'm only 25% into it, so no review here), raise of hands here (read admit in com box) to show who Googled "Joe Fulwiler" when you read,
"He smiled easily, and his blue eyes revealed both intensity and sincerity"?

Ok, clearly I did.

What a handsome man!

Speaking of handsome men, I have a date tonight with one. The annual hospital gala is tonight and as it's my husband's fundraiser, I am obliged to go. I have a comfy, yet very glam dress, however, for the first time ever, so I'm kind of excited to go.

-4-
I do not, however, have comfy shoes. I am having the swelling in my legs and feet again (so, obviously it was not the celebrex causing it). I thought this dress would look nice with some strappy silver sandals and when I went shopping for some shoes Thursday night, I realized how utterly ridiculous that thought was. Trying strappy sandals on was like trying to put strappy sandals on an elephant's foot. The straps wouldn't even buckle on some of them. Lovely.

I ended up with a pair of blue suede low wedges, which are very cute, but will kill my feet. Frankly everything except slippers kill my feet.

-5-
So long story longer, I went to the doctor yesterday to talk about the swelling (or more precisely to try and figure out why I am swelling) and the doctor put me on a diuretic to see if I can get rid of some of the fluid. As my doctor will also be at the gala, she was very interested in making sure my ankles don't look like an elephant's. I'll report back on how that all goes.

-6-
In the interest of changing the subject, I have a video of our cat eating lettuce. I don't know what the fact that our cat loves greens astonishes me so, but it does. She loves salad more than her salmon cat food. In fact, she loves salad more than tuna from the can. Very weird.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day. I dislike Mother's Day because it is usually a day of big letdowns, and not always on mother's part. My husband always wants it to appear as though he has done everything all day, but that usually involves me working the day before to appear that he did. I'm not doing that this year and I have no expectations. I am hoping that means no fewer letdowns. We are taking both grandmas (our moms) to brunch after Mass and that is enough for me. Doug made reservations months ago.

And I think I might bake myself a Buttermilk Cake with Caramel Icing and eat it for dinner.

Happy Mother's Day to all my friends here. I hope your day is just what you wanted (as long as your expectations aren'ttoo high. {wink})

  1. You will never know how many times I have tried to leave a comment and it disappears into cyberspace. Trying again!

I'm so sorry about the swelling. I do hope it goes down so you can enjoy the gala. I would love to see pictures of the handsome couple.

My sister plans her outfits by her shoes first, and shoes for me is the last thought. I remember trying on open toed shoes when I was so swollen from pregnancy and it just looked so awful!!!!

Jen's book is really good. I didn't think I would like it so much. I bought one for my mom and MIL for Mothers Day. I hope my husband reads it next. Having Joe Fulwiler's conversion story as the backdrop makes the book less of a girls' book.

    1. Ya know, blogger's been a big butt lately (sorry, but it has). I guess that's what you get for free.

I didn't expect to enjoy the book so much either. I wonder why?

  3. You know, I have heard a ton about that book but have yet to buy it. Maybe this summer?? The dress sounds lovely, but the shoe thing. I'm sorry. Hoping that it went okay. As for Mother's Day?? I simply want to be taken out to dinner. That's it. I love to cook and bake, but I like to be pampered as well. Not baking is a huge pampering at this stage in my life. I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day!! God bless you!

    1. Patty, the shoes ended up being fine. The diuretic worked! I read about your lovely lunch. I'm glad you got what you wanted (it is good to keep those needs simple ;-) ).

  5. Arg! JJ just hit the keyboard and my comment is gone! And it was nice and complain-y, too . . . just the kind of comment you want to read, I'm sure. ;-)

All I'm going to say now is Grrrr . . . Mother's Day and I'll leave it at that because I'm sure JJ was moved by the Holy Spirit in deleting my comment, lol.

Also, sorry about the swelling and the shoes, but I like the dress!

  6. I love your dress! I almost wish I had somewhere to go so I could get one like it. Shoes are a nightmare for bunions; I'm sure the swelling is as bad. My husband did not like SOTG, but then, have you read his blog of book reviews? I don't even understand them. ;-) I'm so happy to hear about your plans for Mother's Day; it sounds like such an improvement over previous years. Good for you!

    1. I have an event this Saturday, too. You can go in my place. ;-) I am so gala-d out!

Mother's Day, unfortunately, did not turn out as planned. I was sick as a dog. I managed to surface in time to throw dinner together for everyone else. Imagine.

  7. You know what's funny? I googled Joe Fulwiler (images) just to see what came up (and because I have SO much time on my hands) and there's a picture of your cat eating lettuce on the page!

    Made my day.

    1. Haha! I guess I am one of the few who truly had to see what Joe looks like! Thanks for joining me. ;-)

And thanks. It was comfortable, and that's saying something.
