Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

"What day is it?" Daybook

In nature...
...it's dark out! You know I am loving the earlier night falls (and I'm sorry if you prefer more light in your day!), and for two days in a row, Maggie and I have had a long neighborhood walk just after dusk. I love it! The air is so nice and brisk, and the neighborhood is quiet...my favorite time of day. The days here are cool this week, after that huge rain that came through, and I am looking forward to seeing some more color on our trees and shrubs.

In my thoughts...
...anxiety. What's new? More and more, however, I am faced with the anxiety that almost overcomes me when my family is headed in different directions. I know this situation is going to become more normal as the children get older, but each time we all go our separate ways (and leave the house), I am almost overcome with the desire to run home. It only happens when I am away from home as well as my loved ones, and I fear I will turn into a true hermit, never leaving the house. This past Friday, Doug and Noah headed to the high school football game, and Faith and I left home to take my mom to dinner. I really didn't even enjoy my dinner, I was so anxious to get back home. St. Padre Pio....pray for me ("pray, hope, and don't worry").

 In the school room...
...we've had two sick days this week, which coincided with Noah's scheduled off days, and Doug's scheduled vacation days. Tomorrow is back to school, which is why I can't figure out what day it is!

 On the table...
...dinner is put away and the dishes are done. We had a delicious beef stew, rich with Cabernet Sauvignon, bay leaves, thyme, onion, celery and carrots. Rich mashed potatoes with cream cheese were served in pasta bowls with the stew ladled over the top. It was delicious and satisfying when Faith and I returned home late from dance class. The menfolk ate it early.

Today I am wearing...
...a blue and green cotton skirt (I think those must be my signature colors because I never change that part -- either that or I need new skirts), blue and white blouse, and my white Keds. I have a new bracelet that has a med-alert symbol on it with the word "coumadin" stamped below. Very classy. I wear it opposite the wrist with my chains on.

 I am reading...
...Call the Midwife, book 2, Shadows of the Workhouse on my Kindle, still, as well as Waiting to be Heard which is a new library book and will need to go back in another week, so it takes precedence. I'm listening to a good mystery on my iPhone while I iron, and clean, and cook.

A few of my favorite things...
...apples fresh from the trees. I don't think there is any food better than an apple eaten while standing next to the tree on which it grew. Oh my. Must go get some Suncrisp for my eldest this week. Right now we're eating through our stock of Jonagolds.
...sleeping with the windows open, and feeling the cool morning when I wake up
...hot tea with sugar and almond milk in the middle of the day - need that warm mug on my cold hands

 I am creating....
...almost nothing, can you believe it?

I finished Faith's sweater, blocked it and sewed on the buttons.

I finished a baby quilt, the birdy mobile and some burp cloths that went in the mail yesterday -- pictures after it has arrived!

I made three rosaries, finished a half dozen scapulars and mailed them, and now I am working on one rosary and the queue of scapulars I have. I am also repairing a dozen rosaries brought to me by fellow parishioners.

I think it's time to finish the socks I cast on for my mom last year, and start another sweater for Faith.

I am thankful...
...that my husband has a job
...that we have a roof over our heads and food on the table
...that we have a parish that we love so much, with wonderful reverent priests, and is such a good combination of all of the beautiful old and new in our Church

Prayers sent heavenward for...
...my husband and children
...for some special friends and their special intentions
...all those who are sick and alone
...our priests and religious
...all the babies whose mothers are contemplating abortion this week, for a change of heart

Scripture for the day...
...one of my very favorite verses. You, too? Remember to always choose the better part.

Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”

Lk 10:38-42

  1. I hate that verse, but I do love the shorter, cooler days we've suddenly gotten!

    1. Jennie, you make me laugh. Are you such a Martha? I love having the Lord tell me to come out of the kitchen and come take the place by His side!
