Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

ThursDaybook

In nature...
 ...it's sunny and moderately warm today. We are having cool nights, but the sun sure warms us up during the day. I said all that a week ago, I guess the only difference is, it is starting to feel like fall (and it is!). I am loving the cool nights and the earlier sunsets. I love the long nights of the winter, I love finishing the dinner dishes and feeling like I still have a few hours of dark before bed. I know some people dislike that same thing, but for me, it's a comfort. I think the golden glow of lamps around the house make it feel so homey. And the kids are indoors, so I know everyone is safe. It's a mama bear thing, I think. I'm getting ready to hibernate. {wink}

In my thoughts...
...so many thoughts, so little time. I am a worrier and lately I find myself working harder and harder to distract myself from worry. Worry is not constructive. In fact, it can be rather destructive most of the time (borrowing trouble!). I must listen to Saint Padre Pio, "Pray, hope, and don't worry!"

 In the school room...
...we are getting into a good groove. Faith is getting most of her work done every day which means her load is probably about right. I spend so much time worrying (see above) that she is not on par with her peers, but she is who she is. I think she is a pretty well-rounded kid, and she is starting to become a little more serious about some things, so that's progress! (Of course, those "things" are not school related.)

 On the table...
...tonight, I think pierogies with bacon and peas. This is one of my favorite dishes, though the boys usually complain. Since I have only one boy left at the dinner table, he will get pierogies with skyline chili.

Today I am wearing...
...a blue and green cotton skirt, blue top, and my white Keds.

 I am reading...
...Call the Midwife, book 2, Shadows of the Workhouse on my Kindle. I am also halfway through Gift of the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh for the second or third time. It's the kind of book you can pick up and read, and depending on what is going on in your life, it gives an entirely different message than the last time you read it. Margaret prompted me to pick it up again.

A few of my favorite things...
...really crisp grapes ( we have had three bags this week -- yum!)
...sleeping with the windows open, and feeling the cool morning when I wake up
...hot tea with sugar and milk in the middle of the day - need that warm mug on my cold hands

 I am creating....
...so many unfinished projects. If you could see how many projects I have sitting around -- just on my dining room table alone. Sigh.

So, what did I do yesterday in the face of such unfinished business? I started a new rosary.

I am also working diligently on this sweater for Faith. I started it last winter and dropped the ball somewhere just below the gathers on the body of the sweater.

I picked it back up a week ago and got the body finished and one sleeve. Then I realized I had run out of yarn. I had lengthened the sweater because Faith grew so much over the summer, and so I didn't have enough to finish the second sleeve. I started unraveling the bottom, with the intent of just taking out as much as was necessary to finish the sleeve and ended up unraveling about five inches. It's a very wide sweater, and Faith is such a string bean, I decided to take it in a little at the bottom. We'll see how this "winging it" works out. I really dislike this sweater by now, so why not? The yarn has really started looking worn, I guess because it's been fooled around with so much. I can't imagine how bad it will look after washing it a dozen times. It's not cheap yarn either. Well, not expensive, but not cheap. It's knitpicks yarn and I think I'm done with them.

I am thankful...
...that my husband has a job
...that we have a roof over our heads and food on the table
...that we have God, and we have our Church
...good doctors and access to medication

Prayers sent heavenward for...
 ...my husband and children
...for some special friends and their special intentions
 ...our priests and religious
...all the babies whose mothers are contemplating abortion this week, for a change of heart

  1. Gosh, that sweater is beautiful!

All your yarn talk is gibberish to me, but I sure like the pictures and the finished products! (haha)

I will sure try to look at the looooong nights in the colder months like you do. Wow. That's going to be hard. I love the day. But my kids are younger and so it just means they are right outside playing...

  4. Yes, windows open - I am so hot lately!

I like your "Thankful" list. Good basics that I take for granted everyday. Thanks for the reminder.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. I'm sorry your yarn is not pleasing - it looks so pretty! You'll have to let us know what yarn you choose next and how it works out. (I don't know much about picking yarns, but I agree you want them to look nice for a good long time after all that work to make the item!)
I also agree with your favorites and your thankfuls!
Have a great weekend! (And your new picture is very pretty!)

  6. "Sleeping with the windows open..." is a fall-in-southwest-Ohio pleasure I can enjoy now that we no longer live in Missouri. (People burned their trash, and if you slept with windows open, you awoke to choking, stinky smoke). Your sweater looks lovely, although I can't see it as well as I would like; I'm in the midst of doctor's visits and tests because of lost vision in my left eye. I, too, need to focus on the positives and not worry. You and your family remain in my prayers. ~ Rosemary in Ohio

  7. I understand about the yarn not holding up with the wear and tear. That is frustrating.

I've been praying for you! I know it was an older post, but I'm so relieved about your decision on the blood thinner. Your guardian angel was definitely guiding your decision.

  8. I love the soft glow of lamps in the fall and winter. Homey for sure. Your sweater is beautiful. I am just discovering the variety of yarn out there, but I can understand your frustration if it is looking bad already.
