Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Yarning Along

...with Ginny at Small Things.

I'm late to this party today, but I spent the day in the car -- first to the orthodontist, then to the dentist (for my crown, ugh), then to pick up Noah from school and then to run him to the orthodontist for an emergency appointment. Enough of teeth for the day!

Last week I made a bonnet for one of the little twin girls next door. I told you that I had something in mind and I thought I could pull it off by just winging it, but I ended up pulling out all 3/4 quarters of the bonnet I made because it just wasn't right. I searched and search and finally found this pattern (on ravelry here), which is really exactly what I had in mind. The picture doesn't do it justice, it is just darling.

I love a baby with a bonnet. I think they should all wear bonnets -- every baby every where. ;-)

This one pictured needs a ribbon run through the eyelet edge there on the bottom, but before I did that I washed and blocked it and then ran next door to see just how far off I was on size. I had a feeling. I knit it on size 4 needles, but it was pretty darn big. They were preemies and are just now up to normal newborn weight, six weeks later.

So, I'm casting on again, I'll remove three ridges and really tighten up the knitting. Hopefully it will fit by the time cool weather arrives. I can't say enough nice things about this pattern, it's quick to knit and it so pretty. I have a feeling these girls are going to get bonnets until they are old enough to say "no more bonnets!" This yarn is Caron off white (it's really a soft butter yellow), but I think it would be sweet in almost any yarn.

Speaking of the little girls next door, because I was posting about them regularly in my Daybook prayers, the hole in little Annabell's heart has almost closed and the cardiologist has said he does not think she will need surgery. It really is a miracle because that hole was big! Now she is being treated for reflux and they need to try to get her to eat more on her own. But they are hoping, hoping she'll be home in a week or so. She is over six weeks old and has been in the NICU since birth. I just know she misses her sister!

My read is Rescue by Anita Shreve. I just started it yesterday but I am a big Anita Shreve fan, so I think I'll like it.

  1. I like bonnets on babies too. I tried making one for Therese, but was not happy with the finished product. Plus, she wouldn't keep it on!

I am sorry you had to endure more dental work today.

  2. What a sweet little hat! I'm glad to hear the good news about Annabel and hope she gets to come home to be with her whole family ASAP! Will continue to pray for her.

Hope you are recovering well after your dental work.

I read "Rescue!" VERY good story!

  3. Bonnets on babies everywhere! That would be ultra cute! :) Your bonnet is beautiful and mending of Annabell's heart is too. I'm right behind you to the dentist (next week), but first must endure the dreaded pap smear.

  4. I love baby bonnets too! All of mine have worn them, either knitted by me or those that I've picked up at goodwill. It always amazes me how many beautiful, handmade bonnets are for sale there. Maybe the young moms don't know how much work goes into one or just doesn't like the old fashioned look on their baby. But I love it. "One man gathers what another man spills", I guess. The one you are making is lovely. How do you like the book? Was thinking about reading it but wasn't sure.
