Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Yarning Along...

.

 ...with Ginny at Small Things..

The "It's summer!" edition.

Ah...summer. Books and books and books and knitting. I'm excited. Though the unscheduled life of summer does tend to get to me after a while I think it will be a few weeks (months) before I get tired of it. I need some unscheduled time right now.

I started the summer with this wonderful book (The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton) recommended by dear Ginny herself, and I am so enjoying it. This is my idea of a book: some mystery and intrigue, a little romance, parental love, set in another era, oceanside with an elaborate garden and an opulent home ...I could go on. Suffice it to say I am thoroughly enjoying every page of this book.

Most of my knitting these days is done in the car waiting on one child or another, or in the line at the bank. Not a lot of knitting right now. Next week we start summer prep classes, however, and there will be plenty of car time.

This is my own pattern for potholders: 47 stitches cast on a number 7 needle (love my Harmonies!), seed stitch for 47 rows and bind off. Repeat and then stitch the two together with a running stitch just inside the edge. This potholder is a set I am making for my mother-in-law. The yarn is Sugar 'n' Cream Taupe Twist.

Join Ginny and friends for more knitting and reading.

  1. Nice pot holder. That might be my next project--simple projects fit into my time better.

I have seen Forgotten Garden mentioned by several knitters. It will go on my summer reading list.

    Have a lovely day!

  2. I recently finished another book by Kate Morton (The House at Riverton), and I had picked up this book at the same time! It took me longer than I thought it would to finish the first and now The Forgotten Garden is due back in a few days (someone else is waiting for it) and I haven't even started it yet. :( I will have to put in another request for it soon!

  3. The same thing happened to me that happened to Jessica. Whenever I got it from the library, I was too busy to finish it in the given 3 weeks. But it is on my list! (As are many!) Glad to hear you are enjoying it.

  5. That is so funny! I didn't see the recommendations everywhere. I just saw it at Fred Meyer the other day and bought it, lol. I started reading it, but got sidetracked by another non-fiction book! But I am going right back to it soon!
