Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Phil 4:6-7

20/52

.
52 weeks of daily life in pictures: trials and celebrations,
the extraordinary and mundane --
whatever is unique to the week.
Join me if you like.

I don't think you can tell in this picture (the way I thought you could) but I was trying to capture how oppressive the rain was this week. It seemed so dark when I took the picture, but now it just seems green. It's still raining, which means it has rained every day this week, at times, it seemed, without end. I asked my husband if we should build an ark. Anyone had a message yet -- "Start the ark"?

Faith was ill from Friday last week until Wednesday, her fever going as high as 103.5 degrees. She was up several nights coughing and, um, being ill, if you know what I mean. Some Oatmeal raisin scones and black coffee where needed in the mornings. I love to bake a batch of scones and then pop them into freezer bags in the freezer. In the morning, just a brief reheat in a hot oven and, voilà, freshly baked scones. And, of course, there is my Blessed Mother on my coffee mug.

We bought a new mattress and box springs. What? You can't see it? Do you see that lovely crown there in the middle of the bed. No dip, just a crown. That's evidence of a new mattress. It's lovely. (No sun + lots of oppressive rain = dark pics. Sorry.)

The kids' bathroom is almost finished. It is a small bathroom, but like so many DIY projects, it was a big renovation. Except for the mirror that I am going to mosaic, it's finished. But you'll just have to wait until the mirror is finished to see the whole thing. ;-)

My high school senior sang at his final concert this week, though I really hope it wasn't his final concert ever. He really just discovered that he has this deep, rich voice. We need to help him find a way to use it, preferably in service to God. You can hear his solo in the video below, though you can't see him at all (camera not so good at video). He is standing down in the front to the right of the director, who you can vaguely see moving around. Joshua's solo was part of another song until last week when they changed things around, so I think he did pretty well with short  notice.

His voice is the first you will hear. The song is  “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from Les Miserables.
In case you are not familiar with the song, the words he is singing are:

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men.
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Below you'll find a linky list because so many lovely women decided to join me in my 52 Weeks project. There are no rules (except the two below) -- if you want to start your 52 Weeks this week, go for it! I will keep the links up until next Wednesday, so you have almost a week to do it.

(1) Make sure you copy and paste the URL of your 52 Weeks blog post ( and not your main blog URL). You could also use of Flickr photo page if that's how you do things.
(2) Include a link back here in your blog post or flickr photo page.

  1. Love the song, love that musical, love that your boy sings. A strong male voice is a delight to the ear! Very intrigued by your bathroom makeover tease. Mosaic your own mirror! Can't wait to see it! Those scones look yummy and just gave me a craving, I think! Heading over to check out the recipe.

  2. I love scones, and I have always wanted to bake them. I should give them a try and freeze them, like you suggest.

My 5yo has been sick since Monday ~ fever (104 at the highest), sore throat, sleeping a lot. No strep, but the dr. was surprised by that result. Everyone else has colds (or allergies). I was even down for a day. Yuck!

Wonderful that your son sings! I hope he continues. Have you heard of the vocal group Chanticleer? All-male chorus. Wonderful. Maybe your son would be inspired by them. We just saw them a few weeks ago. Maybe they will be touring in your area sometime? Here's a link: http://www.chanticleer.org/

  3. Thanks, Charlotte. I'll pass on your kind remarks. :-) Yes, I'm using the tiny mosaic tiles we used on the wall (border) for the mirror. Trying to repurpose the old one -- mirrors are expensive!

Sarah, Those were Faith's symptoms too, with the added cough. She may have had a sinus infection (with the red throat being from drainage and coughing). Funny thing is the fever broke the morning after we were at the doctor (after only one dose of antibiotic). I imagine it was just viral but I'm keeping her on the antibiotic because we have a big wedding to attend next weekend and I figure her chances of getting something new are lessened on the antibiotics. Hope your gang is all better. And I'll check out Chanticleer -- thanks for the tip.

  4. Great solo, again!

I'm glad Faith is finally on the mend. That's too long for a little one to be sick!

  5. Hoping that little sweet peach gets better soon. It is the weekend and I imagine she wants to play.

  6. Mmmmm... scones. I never have time to stick them in the freezer! Mini-Chocolate Chip and Maple Pecan are my current favorites. Have you posted your recipe before??

  7. Lovely, lovely pics! Your yard is so green...we have been in a drought since the beginning of this year. Turns out that is good with all this Mississippi water - the earth and trees soaking up and slowing down the Morganza spillway water. The scones look delicious and I love a tiled bathroom!

  8. Oh, I know...the rain, the gray, the dark! We've had it too! All I want to do is sleep. I'm glad Faith is feeling better, and kudos to your son on his performance. What are his next-year plans? Will they include music?
