...that MATH is a four-lettered word...in every sense.
The below-mentioned times table trick was not as well-received as I thought it would be. Tears were shed. Not saying whose.
So much for quiet Mondays following chaotic weekends.
I will now go and hide away in my laboratory until I create a chocolate-covered pain pill.

Try Timez Attack. It's a fun game, and kind of stressful in that there's an ogre menacing you, but he never actually comes after you. :-) Learn your times tables to defeat the ogres! May I suggest just requiring her to play for 15 or 20 minutes a day without interfering and see how it goes? It's a free download, so what have you got to lose? :-)
ReplyDeleteI always disliked math growing up...but have you seen this?

Commiserating. Tears were shed here over cursive writing. It was NOT pretty.
ReplyDeleteHope it goes better tomorrow (and I hope Little Brother gets a handle on "n" tomorrow.)
Mondays are our worst math days.
ReplyDeleteMonday should be a 4 letter word.
Jennie, We tried it and she was intrigued, though mildly frustrated. When Noah was learning times tables Timez Attack did not have a Mac version. So glad they do now. She is anxious to play games for math (she thinks that's all she has to do -- she'll be sad when she still sees paper and pencil).
ReplyDeleteThat's incredible, Elisa!
Maybe we could switch kids, Barb. ;-)
You are so right, Allison!
....and when you've created one (specifically for "math numb" mothers)...you WILL share it, right?
ReplyDeleteSigh...as a college math teacher and math lover, I am always saddened by comments like this.
ReplyDeleteKaty, We can't all be math minds. Some have to be writers! And artists! The good news is she is loving Timez Attack as recommended by Jennie above.
ReplyDeleteActually, I was more saddened by your comment. Sometimes I think the negative remarks about certain subjects rubs off on children and they learn to hate it because Mom hates it. But hopefully your comments were limited to your blog.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you found a way to reinforce the concepts that she enjoys!
Katy, Though neither my husband nor I are math minds, we never told the children because we didn't want that to be an excuse. Actually since I started teaching math I thoroughly enjoy it!
