Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Daybook...President's Day

.

 Outside my window...
...gray skies and rain. Snow expected at some point, either today or some time this week. That burst of spring is over until the real deal gets here -- probably in mid-April.

I am thinking...
...about the day ahead -- a day off school. I have so much to do and no idea why I thought I could get it all done in one day. Sadly I have not really had one thought about presidents.

I am thankful for...
...a day to sleep late, after going to bed with a migraine. All gone this morning.

From the lesson plans...
...nothing today except new lesson plans for mom to write.

From the kitchen...
...a new recipe for some Grilled Spicy Chicken Legs with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, roasted potatoes and carrots, a loaf of bread, and possibly a Lincoln Log cake for President's Day dessert (chocolate jelly roll cake with whipped cream filing and chocolate  ganache icing). I traditionally serve it on Lincoln's Birthday but my family much prefers it to Cherry Pie, a more traditional President's Day treat. Will you celebrate today with a special dish?

I am wearing...
...Khakis trousers, a heavy brown cotton sweater and brown wool Haflinger clogs -- I'll have to switch shoes before I go outdoors.

I am creating...
...finishing a hat for Josh's girlfriend to match the Christmas scarf. I have a Seven Sorrows chaplet to finish, a couple of rosaries to make, and a bracelet for my niece to create.

I am reading...
...I am about halfway through Everything is Grace by Joseph Schmidt, FSC, which I read in the early morning. I am also about one-third of the way through The Rite and I want to finish it before I see the movie because I think there are fairly significant changes. I also have some knitting books from the library. Same as last week -- not much time for reading.

I am hoping...
...to stretch the hours of the day out today. I had really hoped to get the next part of the Laundry series up. Don't know how likely that is. Stay tuned.

I am hearing...
...Faith is playing her new princess game on the Wii.

Around the house...
...laundry and ironing. We had friends over for dinner on Saturday so most everything else is still clean. Bedrooms need tidying.

I am going...
...to take the kids bowling (don't tell them I said this, but "ugh").

One of my favorite things...
...a new recipe to try.

I am praying for...
...my children, my husband, my niece, several priests and soldiers, all of the babies whose mothers are contemplating abortion today.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
...Little Flowers on Tuesday, Adoration on Wednesday, and normal obligations in between. Another birthday to plan for on Saturday -- Joshua will be 19!

Thought for the day...
...from St. Peter Damian, feast day today:

"Do not be depressed. Do not let your weakness make you impatient. Instead, let the serenity of your spirit shine through your face. Let the joy of your mind burst forth."  - St. Peter Damian

  1. The cake sounds great, I think I may do that tonight! Do you have a favorite recipe that you use?

  2. Beth, I will use a recipe that I have in a Betty Crocker or a Pillsburty cookbook (something like this: http://www.pillsburybaking.com/Recipes/Details.aspx?recipeID=5227 ) and fill it with sweetened whipping cream and pour over the top a chocolate ganache (like this: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Ganache-2/Detail.aspx ). It's like a giant HoHo when finished! :-)

  4. You said the magic words "Giant Ho-Ho." This cake is now a must-try--but not tonight, I don't have all the ingredients.

  6. WE went bowling yesterday too! It was great! (Not my score, mind you, but the outing itself.)

PS. What's up with the comment moderation?

  7. Glad you had fun. I did not bowl -- the migraine came back -- but the kids had a good time.

PS Getting lots of spam and a few made it through the spam filter. What's up with spam? Give it up, folks!
