Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Wordish Wednesday

.

Caught ya, didn't I? You thought it said "Wordless Wednesday." It started out that way, but I can not be wordless. Wordless is contrary to my nature. So what's the opposite of wordless? Wordish: adj. respecting words; full of words; wordy; verbose; long-winded. You get the idea.

My birthday boy celebrated his 21st with us last night. As usual, he walked in the door, the dog peed in delight on the floor (that *@#* dog can not hold her pee when she is happy), the kids all talked at once, the piano played, and the boys grab-assed -- all in the first two minutes.

The other highlights included:

My husband offered my son his first adult beverage (I have no delusions that it was actually his first, just the first that was offered at home, as in "Son, will you enjoy a beer with me?"). Ahem. I guess he's legal, and I'd rather he drink it at home, not that drinking it at home kept him from drinking it anywhere else.

My mom came over, and with my eldest being her favorite grandchild (no secrets there), there much loving and hugging and more talking at once.

I made and we enjoyed my son's favorite food, Stromboli -- pepperoni and spicy sausage, with a big tossed salad.

We sang "Happy Birthday" and enjoyed Pumpkin Pie, his favorite dessert.

We looked through photo albums, and enjoyed remembering his first few years. He was the cutest kid, and I'm not just biased.

And then someone noticed a rainbow -- we had huge storms yesterday, like so many people did -- and we had 180 degrees of rainbow. Because of the trees you can only see the beginning and end (or end and beginning) in the pictures, and then only a little bit of one side, but it was very vibrant and beautiful. And timely.

The beginning

The end.

  1. Happy 21st to your handsome young man! Love the description; love the photo essay below.

And so the passage of time continues...our husbands share a beer with our grown up sons (well, not yet my husband & son) and we continue to drain the dregs of each and every day.

To think that this isn't all there is! To think this life is just a barque and we are merely passing through on our way to something even better.

Too deep? Well, it is "Wordish Wednesday", after all, (LOVE that), and I've been reading St. Therese.

  3. That's a lovely birthday celebration! I'm so glad he came home for it; we had to go to see our 21 year old who couldn't spare the time to come home! She ordered a glass of wine to celebrate, and we just said to each other: At least she won't get arrested for using a fake id anymore!

Sad, isn't it? But she's a wonderful girl, and she needs a wonderful man!

  4. I love that you are verbose! Wordlessness can feel a bit too stark somtimes. Happy Birthday to your big guy! That's a milestone to be sure!

Regarding your pup, here is was Cesar Millan has to say about submissive urination. Have you had her checked for a bladder infection? (Sorry for the lack of segue!)

  6. Margaret,
Wow. Barque? You sent me to dictionary.com this morning. Yes, this life is just a barque, and sometimes the voyage here on earth is better than others, thank goodness, but we know it only gets better at some point!

    Sara,
I have a wonderful man. Meet in Tennessee somewhere?

    Charlotte,
Thanks for your birthday wishes. And unfortunately our Maggie has been that way since Day 1. She just gets very, VERY happy. She actually smiles -- it's a real hoot (except the pee)!

  8. P.S. Charlotte, she only pees when she is VERY happy (and she really loves Geoff!), not when you talk to her or scold her. Because she is only a few months past a year I am still holding out hope that she will grow out of it. Until then we try to get her outdoors to be really happy.

  9. Thank you, Deborah. It was very nice, and as crazy as it sounds, rather low-key.

Yes, Sheila, you are so right.

  12. Wonderful words! Love the pics! Love the dog wanting the pie! Can't blame her, I love pumpkin pie myself! I think it's going to be fun when mine are old enough to suffer a Guinness with me (Dad doesn't drink). Love the rainbow (I get them almost daily, but it's where I am and I never cease enjoying them - I love God's promises).
God bless and keep you all.
