Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

A Book and a Movie

.
...or a movie and a book, whichever you like.

Thus far it's the summer of good reads. (Do you know me on goodreads.com? Find me and you can see what I've been reading.) This week I've had my face stuffed in The Help by Kathryn Stockett Have you read it? I loved it. Admittedly I'm the kind of person, who, when engrossed in a book, will walk around the house reading, cook dinner reading, blow dry my hair (yes!) reading, "mmhmmm" to my children and husband while reading (and not listening). It was bad this week with my face stuffed in this book (464 pages read in three days), but it was gooood. Maybe it's your style -- check it out. I won't write a review -- I'm not very good at it -- but I will say it reveals so much about women, good and bad, endearing and shameful, heartbreaking and joyful. It's a story about humanity, the light and the dark.

One night this week, Doug and I sat down to Leap Year. I warned him it was a chick flick and he said that was o.k., he was surfing on his crackberry, but he ended up watching and even admitted it was pretty "cute" and laughed out loud a few times (we both find Irish humor to be very funny). It's certainly not Academy Award winning material, but that's fine by me. It's also not a "kids" movie, but it was rated PG, so you probably won't find anything terrible offensive.

  1. You won't believe this, but I just saw/read both of these in the past couple of weeks!

My book club read The Help and we all loved it. I was nervous because I had heard so much hype about it and that usually means I won't like it, but I read it in two days. ;)

And Rob and I both enjoyed Leap Year. We gave it the "cute rental" thumbs up. :)

  2. My mom just called me yesterday to tell me that she had finished reading The Help and was mailing it to me.

I read when I cook too. There's a drawer in the kitchen that is JUST right for holding a book :)

  6. Ha, ha, I do the same thing---reading while blow drying or brushing teeth. I've only had time to read a couple of pages, but I'm very intrigued!
