Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Mother of Our Lord, pray for us

.

DAVID, Jacques-Louis
St Roch Asking the Virgin Mary to Heal Victims of the Plague
1780

“In that first ‘fusion’ with Jesus (Holy Communion), it was my Heavenly Mother again who accompanied me to the altar for it was she herself who placed her Jesus into my soul.”
-Saint Therese of Lisieux

Our mother Mary is always our greatest aid to reach her Beloved Son. I had my own experience not long ago reaching out to Mary to bring me to her Son Jesus.

One Sunday, I began to get a migraine headache
at Mass. I get them fairly often and without warning. Usually my trigger is a bright light -- a glare from a car or some other glass on sunny days. After the glare hits my eyes, I know the migraine is coming because I get a blind spot in the shape of the glare, usually just in one eye. After the blind spot is gone, I get the headache. It's fairly predictable and fortunately not completely debilitating.

On this particular Sunday, however, I began to get the blind spot after coming into church, and it affected both eyes. Usually the blind spot lasts for about 15 to 30 minutes, but on this day it lasted for the duration of the Mass, and by the time the Consecration was over and it was Communion, I could hardly see anything. Everything was blurry as the blind spot (blurry, but not black) had taken over both fields of vision. I so badly wanted to go to Communion, but
I had not told my husband or children that I was suffering with the migraine, so I didn't want to make a scene making my way to Father. I prayed, "Mary, lead me to your Son," and with little difficulty, I stood and made it the short distance (fortunately we were near the front of the church) to Father and back to my seat. And almost as soon as I finished my after-Communion prayer, my blind spot was gone. And beautifully, I had a most mild headache that day. I thank Mary for bringing me to her Son, for I know without her aid I would never have made it.

Always turn to Mary in your time of need, as she most wants us to be close to her Son, now and for eternity in heaven.

  2. Barbara...what a lovely story. I'm so sorry that you, too, are a migraine sufferer. Unless you've experienced it, it's rather hard to express just how wonderful the "mildness" was, hmm? Thank you for sharing your little miracle...
