Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

The Living Bread

.
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”John 6:51

As many of you know, my daughter Faith made her First Holy Communion today. We had a few stumbles along the road toward her big day this week, but they were just little slips, and they made the final destination so much sweeter.

The sweetest moment, the moment in which she took Our Precious Jesus, was also a moment in which she also showed fortitude, taking Communion on the tongue, the only child to do so. It may seem like a small thing, but knowing my daughter, it was not. I was moved to tears at her witness of love for Our Lord.

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:2-4

The day is almost done, the party is over, but she looks forward to tomorrow -- another day in which she will take Jesus in her heart.

  8. What a beautiful little girl, both inside and out! Tell Faith that Mrs. B. said congratulations and that's she's proud of her.

To be such a little fish swimming against the current like that...

Well, Barbara, you should be proud.

  16. Sarah,
It's such an exciting day -- better than you can imagine!

Sara and Barb, She was so happy! Partly because of her Sacrament and partly because all eyes were on her!

    Kimberly,
She is so looking forward to Mass today!

    Zina and Emily,
Thank you. You are both so kind.

    Katy,
    Thank you for your wishes.

    Margaret,
I was proud beyond words (she was pretty pleased, too).

PS As I stood waiting for Noah to take the picture I realized that I had wiped the lipstick off my bottom lip for Communion -- and thought, oh well, no lipstick again! I must have had some color left. ;-)

    Thank you, Jenny.

Regan, She showed a little of what she's made of, and it's all good. :-)

Meg, Thank you and I do too! Maybe?...

Thank you, Sarah. That's just what Father said in his homily.

Thanks, Nancy. It was worth it (even the mumbling under my breath).

    Michelle,
Thank you. And thank you. Package in the mail this week. ;-)

  19. Congratulations Faith! I am so proud of you! My 21 year old son, Stephen, has never received communion in the hand - only on the tongue. Barbara, Faith and her dress are beautiful! :) Hugs.

  21. Congratulations to all of you! Faith was radiant in her beautifully sewn dress (as we just knew she would be, with all the time her sweet Mama put into it, muttering and all!). And courageous, to boot, going against the current! God bless you all. Thank you for the beautiful post, Barbara.

  22. How your cup must have runneth over! She does, indeed, look like a happy bride (as she should) and I hope she is glad she made the decision to receive on the tongue. I still do. I only receive in the hand if the bishop mandates it because of flu season. ;) Anyway, congratulations to a beautiful girl and a wonderful family!

The dress is just lovely, simply elegant. You made me think of my own First Communion. I asked for a long dress but my sister wanted a knee length one. I'll have to ask my mother what happened to my dress! Thank you for sharing such a special occasion!

  23. I read in Reader but I had to come over to comment. Your daughter is just lovely. I love her prayer hands. I pray for blessings for her in this new chapter of her spiritual life. We will be there in a few weeks too!

  24. Barbara, thank you so much for sharing these precious pictures. She is truly darling. The dress is just gorgeous...such a silky fabric must have required great finesse. And I love the little baptismal bows you incorporated. It must have been such a joy to make this gown after three boys!
