Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Woman's Day (Evening) Book

Outside my window...a snow squall. I headed out the door a few minutes ago to pick up some things at the library. As soon as I got as far as the garage door, I turned around and came back in. It's virtually a white out, at least for the moment. I don't need anything from the library that badly.

I am thinking...about sleepless nights. The last three nights for me have been that. Trouble falling asleep and trouble staying asleep. This morning, I went back to bed after Doug and Josh left, and then my entire day was off. I prayed the rosary, I tried to relax, but I didn't get out of bed, which may have been my mistake. What do you do when you have trouble sleeping?

I am thankful for...my husband, who says "go back to bed" and really means it.

From the learning rooms...testing week for Noah, but Faith has some catching up to do. She was sick a few times this quarter and lost time. Tomorrow she begins cursive. Such a big day! I think we'll have to celebrate!

From the kitchen...tonight for dinner we had some new dishes -- Turkey Cutlets with Avocado Salsa, Peppered Couscous, and Roasted Cumin Cauliflower. Recipes to come on the food blog. The scent of Oatmeal Chocolate Chippers is still hanging in the air from some after-dinner baking.

I am wearing...khaki pants and a blue and white checked blouse and...my Haflinger clogs (I love 'em!)

I am creating...repairing one rosary and creating a duplicate of this one for my husband's aunt. Still working on Peach's sweater but I got that baby quilt in the mail. Hurrah!

I am going...nowhere tonight. To the doctor in the morning.

I am reading...made some headway on Betsy in Spite of Herself.

I am hoping...for a good night's sleep.

I am hearing...
Bill O'Reilly interviewing someone about health care reform.

Around the house... laundry and ironing. Today I ironed for about two hours and got most of the pile taken care of. We need to start working on Peach's room makeover so I see some wallpaper stripping in the near future.

One of my favorite things...snow outside. Warm and snug inside. A movie up tonight.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesday evening, and dinner out with a girlfriend on Thursday. School and housework filling in all the gaps.

A picture thought... Peach is one of my distractible children (I have three out of four...sigh). She has a very difficult time focusing. Her mouth goes nonstop, either chattering or singing. And she can't sit still for the life of her. Today I caught some pictures of her trying to do her school work. Most of the time she was oblivious, but she caught me once or twice.

  3. Those are adorable pictures!!

Jedi is the same way, as is Ballerina Rosie, I am just thankful we homeschool, as it would be ever harder to concentrate in a school setting with 29 other kids!

  4. Peach is too cute for homework. Send her my way for some cupcakes and chaos!

    Thanks for your comment...
what you said is exactly what I meant.
I truly believe that once God is your center, then peace follows, and so on and so on...

all that said, it is not always easy.
    Day by day...

  5. ...hm...maybe you can suggest a good book for a busy mom trying to ignore the pressures of looking good, and having everything materialistic, and trying to keep up...and needing to make God the center of her life???
The Cross Centered Life?? Have you read it???
Let me know if you have good ideas..

    me thinks you do....

  6. Laura,
Honestly, I'm not the best to choose a book that I should read. Usually it's one I want to read. However, every day I read from the Divine Intimacy
(there's a journal for everyday). It's a lifetime book -- you read the same passages over and over, and believe me, most are like I never read them before. It's uplifting, but at the same time, deeply moving. I make it a point to sit and read everyday. Sometimes I really would rather do something else, but I am always glad I read it.

Another tip to help keep God the center -- Catholic Radio. I spend at least an hour in the car every day (just picking my high schooler up from school) and Catholic radio really helps me shut out some of the junk from the world. There are quite a few CA affiliates, maybe you can pick one up in your car. Seriously, it's real people hosting shows, real people calling in and it's so helpful for everyday life. I promise I'm not associated at all -- not selling here -- just really glad to have something everyday (that's easy) to keep me grounded to faith.

PS Peach would love your cupcakes and chaos. Love it!

  7. that sleepless thing must be making its' rounds. i've been struggling with it too. wondering if it is my over-worked brain. or my husband's snoring. i usually just lay there and pray my way back to the land of nod. sometimes a warm cup of chamomile and a benadryl help too. but i so hate to resort to using "medication". but it is so hard when the morning comes rushing at you and you've not had a good sleep. i'll pray for you, friend.
and peppered couscous with roasted cumin cauliflower sound like music to my ears!!!!
    sounds so yummy.

  8. Regan,
It would be great if we could both figure out what's keeping us up. I have snoring here, too. Although I don't think it wakes me, it does keep me awake. I nudge, and I nudge. Funny you mention Benadryl because Monday night I broke down and took one. Of course I slept all night. I hate to resort to it also, but better than no sleep. It's just one allergy pill.

Will post recipes soon. It was yummy.

  9. She is so adorable and photogenic, I would have a hard time not photopraghing her every move! :)

  10. She's so cute! And I know where you're coming from with "distractible" since Little Brother is the same way. He's in constant motion (and so is his mouth.) He just started cursive too and is SO excited to be learning to write like the grownups.

Hope the doctor visit was just a checkup and that all is well!
