Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Shh! Don't tell Peach -- She's a Cheap Date

.

Last week I was shuffling some things around in Peach's "lingerie" drawer. I pulled out some flannel nightgowns to make room for some summer ones when I realized she was down to one summer nightgown. Then I noticed that she had three nice camisole-style undershirts left from winter that probably won't fit her in the fall. I hate to let them go to waste all summer, but obviously she doesn't need an undershirt under summer clothes.

So instead of sewing new nightgowns, I convinced her that it would be really cool to use the cammies for jammy tops, and sew new shorty bottoms. We stopped at the fabric store where she picked out three very bright, but cute, fabrics, and now we have three new pairs of jammies -- all for the price of three yards of sale fabric. They took about 20 minutes to make each, honestly, with Butterick pattern no. 6659. I made the panties and left out the leg elastic.

This could easily be done for boys, too. Just use little boy's undershirts and make up some easy bottoms with the fabric of their choice. The summer fabrics were all on sale at JoAnn, and there were still many to chose from. This is the first year in a long time that I really liked the fabric choices -- maybe more people are sewing these days.

  1. Very cute jammies! I hate to say it, though, but your line "This could easily be done for boys, too" made me laugh out loud. Sure it could...

...if I had a Barbara next door!

First, though, you'd have to help me unbury my sewing machine. And then you'd get to hold my fussy (but cute) infant. And THEN you'd get to teach Math & phonics to all my whiny students, who see that the neighborhood kids are done for the summer and wonder why, oh why aren't they?

    I'm not complaining, mind you.

    Okay. Maybe I am. ;)

(They really are very cute jammies, you know.)

  2. I'm not at all good at sewing and all that. Best I can do is button replacements, picking up a dropped hem and slightly-crooked Boy Scout merit badges.

But Little Brother has put the knees out of his gym-uniform sweatpants, and the school is changing gym uniforms anyway. He likes these sweats, though; he says they're comfy. So I told him I'd cut them down into long shorts and he can sleep in them, with a t-shirt. He's a happy boy.

  3. Barbara, love the sweet nightwear you've made for your "Peach". I am just itching (!) to get sewing again and make some sweet stuff over here but I have decided the two youngest need to learn to sew this summer alongside of me. I was able to secure a great extra sewing machine from a woman on freecycle to safeguard my own machine from crazy children sewers who break all of my needles like our 16yo daughter did last fall. ugh. Anyway, love the material, love the pattern too. Cheap date? Nah, it was million dollar day for Peach to have such a mama as you making her new cutie jammies. What a memory she will always hold dear. Good stuff Barbara! :-)
