I had a very nice birthday. Thank you to all my blogging friends for your birthday wishes. Every single one was greatly appreciated (even those by smart alecs who reminded me of their youth!).
I think my children made an extra special effort to be on their best behavior, which surprised me. My brother called me early in the morning to wish me a Happy Birthday and asked what my plans were for the day. I told him "same-old, same-old" but I had hopes that the kids would not fight. He said, "Do remember we used to ask mom every year what she wanted for her birthday (not that we had a dime to spend) and she would always say, "Just don't fight.'" I laughed at the memory because I don't even think it was within us to try not to fight. It was an impossible wish. My children did well though, and I didn't even ask.
I spent a good part of the day working on a dress for Peach. Doug's new employer hosts a Red White and Boom event each year on the night of our city's fireworks and we will attend. I don't normally worry about having "holiday" outfits, but since Doug's office plans the event, I'm making an effort for us to look especially nice. I found some cute red, white and blue fabric at the store and sewed Peach a dress (using this tutorial as a guide, though I did not follow it exactly). It turned out cute, though admittedly it was time-consuming (I know you're laughing, Cheryl).
I also spent a good part of my day parked on my backside with my latest good read, Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. I had sworn off Picoult after her last few (stinkers), but when I saw this one on the new book shelves at the library, I caved. So far I'm very pleased with it -- it's a page-turner.
So, it was an all-around good day. Tonight I'm having dinner with a girlfriend and tomorrow night my mom is cooking -- a birthday weekend in the works! Enjoy your weekend, friend. Make some time to enjoy yourself -- life is short!

ReplyDeleteThat is an ADORABLE dress!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteBang on job on that dress! I wish I had the talent . . . when I get my sewing machine back I'll try simple patters and such to see if I can make my girl dresses. She'd love it if I could make her a dress like this!
ReplyDeleteSUPER cute dress!
ReplyDeleteme not laughing...it's a perfect july 4th dress! (I couldn't see the pic in the link...my compooter is not very cooperative lately ;(
ReplyDeleteThanks, Charlotte. The colors are very deep and rich -- I like it too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stina!
Sarah -- This one was all straight lines. Not difficult, just time-consuming.
Thanks, Anne!
Cheryl, When you see it, you'll laugh. It has a gathered top -- gathered with elastic thread, the lazy woman's substitute for smocking!
Love the fabric for that dress. Good job.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday!
LOVED the lyre bird video. Thanks for posting it.
