Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Seven Quick Takes

.

Vol. I for me

My daughter was up every half hour last night barfing. Can anyone tell me why she waits until moments before I turn in for the night to start throwing up? Every time? I don't think she has ever started a vomit-sickness in the daylight hours. What's up with that?

Our tomatoes have really sprouted and I am hopeful that they will be big enough to plant in the garden in a few weeks when we're past frost warning in Ohio. The peppers have not done as well (second tray from the bottom, obviously).

I think this year is going to be a big one for vegetable gardeners. I think people are really seeing the value of planting seeds, the cost of which is pennies, and getting an entire season's worth of vegetables -- with a little hard work, of course. I know some people who have said their neighborhood rules prevent gardens. That is insane. Rise up and revolt, friends!

~~~~~~~
I also think you might see more laundry hanging on lines this year. To heck with those homeowner's association rules. How a group of people randomly make rules like that? How can they tell someone that they have to spend money to run the drier when they can hang their clothes in the sun for no cost? I think it's obscene that people find clean laundry hanging on a line offensive.
(Getting off my high horse now.)
I posted a sweet little story over on my rosary blog the other day. I then sent the link to the story to my husband and when he came home I asked him if he read Luigi's story. He said, "Yes, but who is Luigi?" Now, I worked on Luigi's rosary for quite a while, so I was just a little hurt that he had no idea who Luigi was. So, I said, "You know, Luigi? Luigi's silver rosary?" And the light bulb over his head went on and he said "No way!" That was Luigi's rosary?" He's not usually that thick. But, he was shocked and impressed and really touched. (You really have to read the story to get this, but it's a short story.)
I still can't get over that a complete stranger trusted such a beautiful thing to another complete stranger. Faith in God and faith in goodness, friends.
We are taking delivery on a new car this weekend which college boy will drive to school. I always said we'd never buy any of our children a car, but you know you should never say never. Circumstances change and sometimes we have to alter the pattern.
I haven't really mentioned that college boy is home because I didn't want to tell tales, but he is. Let's just say dorm life was a little distracting. He is safely ensconced in his new basement bedroom -- more solitude, fewer fights (another never say never). I am just grateful that he chose a school within commuting distance. He seems much more grounded at home, and happy. He has a new job at Panera and the forecast looks good.
~~~~~~~

And speaking of good forecasts, high school boy will likely be inducted into the National Honor Society in two weeks. The official list has not been posted, but his GPA is in the high 3s and he's been through the faculty interviews, so it looks very good. We are so proud of him -- we weren't sure this kid would make it through one quarter of this school. He has met the challenge head on and far exceeded our expectations! God love him.

Check back later today for the name of the 1000th Post giveaway winner. The rosary is still not finished, because my parts shipment didn't arrive, but I'll name the winner and post the pictures another day.

Have an awesome weekend, my friends. Carpe diem.

  1. I hope Peach feels better soon. If it makes you feel any better, I have been up every night with my 2 littles since last Thursday and now my 6 year old has it! Not the pukes though, just coughing and fevers.

    Loved that Luigi story, just beautiful!

  2. Barbara - I feel the same way about hanging laundry! However, when we moved into our neighborhood, we knew the rules...and we haven't gotten involved in our home owner's association in order to change it.

    Luckily, our rules just state that we can't have a line hanging permanently, so one of those retractable lines will work! I'm seriously considering it!

  3. Thanks, Jamie. She is feeling better -- playing in the back yard! I hope your lovies feel better soon, too.

    Kerry, The thing about deed restrictions is that they are not at all democratic. Generally changes can be made to the deed without any vote at all (at least that's my experience). Anyway, my clothes line is not up all the time -- it would get filthy and someone would end up hanging himself just walking thorough the yard! ;-) Give it a try -- You'll love it. It's laundry therapy.

  6. Peppers take much more bottom heat than tomatoes to sprout. Also, they take longer. I see at least one is up. The others may still sprout.

    Egg Cartons are ok for the initial starting of seeds but there just isn't enough soil in them for enough roots to maintain the plants as they grow. You really should transplant the plants to bigger containers now.

  7. Barb, you and I really need to get together for G & T's... we have much to discuss! I want to hear more about oldest son's transition back to home. Lil sis is doing great over here, don't get me wrong. But we're in this for the long haul. She'll be with us all summer and all next year... unless she goes crazy first.
    :)
