....water isn't as expensive as gasoline, because I think this is going to be a major form of entertainment at our house this summer.
Besides borrowing movies, music and books from the library, which is free, and playing at the park (when it's below 85 degrees), which is free, the kiddie pool is about as cheap as entertainment gets around here. We are not headed off for a glorious vacation anywhere, so I am desperate for activities to fill up the "fun things to do" list (chores are not fun, so they are out).
Gasoline in central Ohio is only a few pennies short of the national average of $4.05, so what's a mom to do with almost three long months of nothingness ahead?
Any suggestions -- what's on your "fun things to do" list?

Well my only kid is only 1, so for fun he likes to splash water around in a pot on the kitchen floor or smear applesauce on his face with a spoon. I somehow doubt that your kids would find either of these activities amusing though!! Good luck filling these months with fun - not an easy task for mom no matter what the kids' ages!

Use the family video camera to make your own movie (first write the script, then film it, then host a screening)
Craft projects (go to the site FamilyCorner.com where I volunteer--there are enough craft ideas for all ages & abilities to keep a houseful of kids busy for several summers)
Yep - we're loving the wading pool too! Water IS actually free here, but if I tell you gas costs double, will that make you feel better? :) Goes well with chalk too! LOADS of fun with chalk!
ReplyDeleteThe Martha Stewart kids magazines are great resources. I'm not sure if they're on the market, but my MIL was able to get them second hand.
Bubbles, water gun fights, water balloon fights, the backyard pool (notice a water theme) ;), picnics at local state parks/playgrounds, watching movies, indoor picnics on rainy days, free bowling, free kids movies (ok, the ones that are appropriate) at our local Regal theatre (check your area), painting the sidewalk with washable paint, playing frisbee, board games, tent camping in the backyard, making S'mores, star gazing, catching fireflies.
