Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Weekly Liturgical Activities -- Week 8

The coming week is a little more quiet than this past week was, with its many saint feast days. There is, of course, a saint (or several) feast days every day of the year. But, this week's saints are not popular enough (poor folks) to have coloring pages and online games made about them. However, I highly recommend that you read their stories to your children anyway. If you don't have a saint-of-the-day book for children at home (we use Saints for Young Readers Volume 1 and 2), Holy Spirit Interactive has a good biography for everyday.

This Sunday's Gospel is The Transfiguration by Matthew. The Transfiguration is a fascinating event, especially for children, since it is one of the many mysterious events in the life of Christ. The activities below should help children become familiar with it.

The Transfiguration -- Second Sunday of Lent

If you have a children's bible, pull it out and read this Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 17:1-9) before Sunday's Mass. Your child's face will light up when he or she hears the familiar words at Mass.

For a little art history lesson, view the many portrayals of The Transfiguration by well-known artists.

The Transfiguration is the fourth Luminous Mystery. For a printable poster about this mystery, go here.

For a maze, "Find Jesus, Moses and Elijah," go here.

To download a coloring page of Jesus, Moses, Elijah and the three disciples, click on this link.

Or click here for a link to one. And another here.

For an online coloring activity go here and click on the Fourth Mystery of Light.

For an online matching game, go here and click on the Luminous Mysteries.

Or an online jigsaw puzzle, go here and click on The Transfiguration.

Continuing Our Lenten Journey

As we are entering into our third week of Lent, many children will be forgetting their Lenten promises (or as in the case of my son who gave up all candy -- will be wishing they hadn't made such noble promises), and may need a little reminder about this liturgical season.

To download a True or False Quiz about Lenten facts, click here. (Answers here, mom).

If you haven't made it to the Stations of the Cross yet, I highly recommend it. Or try them at home -- Here you will find an audio Stations of the Cross for children (click "Praying the Stations").

And to download instructions for a Stations of the Cross Bingo click here. Very clever.

Here is a downloadable activity for your child to put the Stations in the correct order.

And a crossword puzzle about the Stations.

Have a great week, friends.
