Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole

.
In so many ways, the Internet is a fabulous thing. While it certainly has its share of evils, we can learn about so many wonderful things -- God beautiful creations -- about which we could not otherwise know.

Several days ago, I created a simple slide show for my Michael's birthday. I created it at One True Media, and given a choice of probably a hundred or so songs, I chose "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawio'ole. I knew nothing about this man, I had heard the song on television commercials, but that was it.

Yesterday, my mother-in-law asked me who that singer is; she said she so enjoyed the song she wanted to put it on her iPod (yes, she's ahead of me there!). I said I'd check it out and let her know.

Well, through the wonderful world wide web, I found that his name is Israel Kamakawio'ole, and sadly, he has been gone from this world for 10 years, having died at age 38. I want to share this video with you though, as it looks like he was a man who was loved by many, and I am glad to know who the voice in that song was.

Note: If you think that maybe I live under a rock because I have just discovered this information, you may be right.

  1. Barbara,
"Bruddah Iz" is one our favorites! We were stationed in Hawai'i when he died and watched the televised funeral.

  3. Move over; you're hogging the rock.

I, too, love his music; and I didn't know he had died.

May he rest in peace. Certainly he has made this world a more beautiful place.

  4. I love his sound ... he truly sang from a spirit within.

He did have a sad, early ending to his life, but his gift lives on.
